If you're a client of ours, you've likely heard us discussing the upgrades taking place at XFT (Franktown) - the radar site that serves most of Eastern Ontario. We visited the site yesterday and are pleased to see the upgrades are on track. The old dome, seen behind, will come back into service on March 13th, stay operational for around 45 days, then be permanently shut down. The new dome will then be built and go into testing come mid-July. The public will have access to the new radar data come late August. The upgrades, while providing short-term outage pain, will greatly improve human and computer-based forecasts.
From all of us at KSMI Weather, we wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season, and all the best in 2021!
