Lakehead Wrestling and Algoma Wrestling will be co sponsors of the 2020 OFSAA Elite 6 T Shirt and The Coaches Hospitality Zone. Big thanks to Farhan Faruqui of Lets Wrestle for doing such a great job with the shirts. Coffee being served, Tuesday at 8 AM.

Lakehead Wrestling 29.08.2020

Lakehead Wrestling won two medals at this year’s Usports championship. The men’s team placed 9th and the women’s team placed 7th. Marco Palermo won his third USPORTS championship, domination the 61kg weight division. Marco also won the most matches in the least amount of time in the men’s championship, winning four matches while being on the mat for only 10 minutes and 27 seconds. Marco was named first team all Canadian. Madison Clayton won a silver medal in the women’s 63 k...g class, winning 3 matches by pin. Madison was named second team all Canadian. As a team Lakehead recorded the 4th most pins with nine. John Campbell was tied for ninth among all the male competitors for technical points scored, and was tied for first for the most points scored in a single match. Brody Evans will graduate this year with a Physics Degree, and will complete his 5th year as a member of the lakehead Varsity Wrestling program at the 2020 USPORTS Championships held February 21st and 22nd. Brody has competed in 5 OUA Wrestling Championships and over 80 matches in his 5 year career. Winner of the Frank Schaller award for his commitment and dedication to the Lakehead Wrestling Program. Brody is a long time member of Lakehead’s Varsity Counsel and has been a committed member of the wrestling program’s Active U’s coaching staff.

Six wrestlers represented Lakehead University and the LWC bringing back a second place team finish in the men’s division at the Ontario Junior Wrestling Championships. John Campbell, Mike Zale and Alex Richer all won medal, with Campbell and Zale winning Golds and Richer winning Silver, Jessica Hong won bronze.

Three wrestlers at practice were wearing a different version of the well known Elite 6 T- Shirt. Alex Richer was wearing 2017 version, John Campbell the 2018 version and Jess Hong the 2019 version.
