Volunteer appreciation week continues with another special group of the LAPS team: Our Dog Walkers Shelter life can be stressful for any canine companion, but thanks to the incredible dedication of the LAPS dog walking team, the pups in our shelter are given substantial amounts of exercise every single day of the week. We rely on our dog walkers to help us with keeping our dogs healthy, both mentally and physically but also to help them build on their socialization and tr...aining. Through the use of positive reinforcement training sessions, shelter dogs at LAPS benefit immensely from the time these volunteers spend to provide them with critical adoption skills Whether it's blazing hot or freezing cold, we can always count on our dog walking team to show up and make a difference for the animals at LAPS. Thank you for all that you do LAPS dog walkers!

Bulldogs are Beautiful Day! Neat Facts about Bulldogs: 1. They are the most popular dog in the UK... 2. They are the best Snorters and Tooters 3. Very loving companion, especially with kids..they love kids 4. Due to their large heads they aren't the best swimmers, so they will need a life jacket when enjoying some time at the lake! Are you a proud owner of a wrinkly faced pup? Send us a pic

With this beautiful warm weather we are having we want to remind everyone that it only takes minutes to put your pet in a life-threatening situation when left in a vehicle on a warm or hot day. Please be conscious of your furry friends. If you’re unable to take your pet with you when you leave your vehicle, leave your pet at home where they are safe. #nohotpets

We have some exciting adoption news for Sally! This adorable special needs kitten was brought to our shelter back in October. Even though she was as rambunctious as each of her five brothers and sisters, Sally faced mobility challenges due to a birth defect which had caused her front legs to be completely deformed. Sally went into foster care with one of our incredible veterinary partners. After weeks of ongoing rehabilitative treatments, Sally has shown huge improvements e...veryday. During her recovery, Sally's foster mom fell in love with this sweet and stoic little kitten. She has decided to adopt Sally and give her a forever loving home! We are so excited that Sally will be enjoying her first Christmas surrounded by love. We would like to thank everyone who generously donated to Sally's care. Together, we gave her a second chance at a happy life.

WOW! In less than 8 hours this past Friday, we received over 92 applications for our adoptable animals. The I'll Be Home for Christmas campaign is off to a great start! Here at LAPS, we strive to match each animal to the best family. Our adoption counsellors take the time to carefully consider all applications that are submitted before making their final selections. Though our adoption process can take more time, we are able to place animals into the FOREVER homes, and greatly reduce the risk of having them surrendered back to the shelter; a stressful process for everyone involved. We appreciate everyone's patience as we work to match every adopter with the best animal. If you weren't selected to adopt this time around, please don't be discouraged! We will be posting more animals on December 4th. Be sure to check back

Say hello to Minka everyone! What she may lack in all 4 legs, she makes up for with the sweetest personality. This incredibly adorable 1.5 year old girl has a very sad story. Minka was brought to the safety of our shelter after a kind member of the public noticed she had been hanging around their home for some time. She was a bit thin but overall quite healthy. We had her spayed, de-wormed, vaccinated, and just when she was ready to be adopted into a loving home, the ve...t noticed something going on with her right hind leg. The radiographs allowed us to discover that Minka had chronic fractures in her right hind leg in the femoral neck and head region that was causing her pain. After months of countless vet visits and second opinions, our veterinary partners decided that amputation was the best option for her. We are happy to report that Minka recovered from her amputation phenomenally! Within a week she was playing and jumping, you could never tell she wasn’t just born with 3 legs! Now that Minka has had her amputation, she is FINALLY ready for her furever home. If you are interested in adopting this sweet little gal, please visit our website lapsbc.ca for more information.

LAPS Community! We need your help to find Ophi and Virgo a home These adorable kittens have been looking for a home for weeks but have continuously been overlooked due to their appearance. Even though they may look a little different, they are total snuggle bugs and have all the love in the world to give. Help us give Ophi and Virgo a second chance by sharing their story far and wide: Ophi and Virgo were brought in with 11 of their siblings, many of which were very ill a...nd needed months of intensive care. Poor Ophi and Virgo were the smallest and sickest of the bunch but have recovered miraculously well. We are so happy to say that they are more than ready to find their furever home! Virgo is almost completely blind and while Ophi’s vision also isn’t great, he takes pride in being Virgo’s eyes. These two are very bonded and absolutely must go to a home together. They have no problem navigating around their room and finding their toys, food and litterboxes. The ideal home for these two would be a home that is able to adapt to their sight impairments. They will need extra time to adjust to a new location and will reply on their family to slowly go through this process with them. They are very loving and confident but would do best in a home with no small children but could possibly live with a respectful dog. These two have overcome so much in their short lives and just want to be treasured like the little gems they are. If you are interested in Ophi and Virgo, please head to our website lapsbc.ca to fill out an adoption application. Please share this post! We know the perfect home is out there. Check out our story for some cute videos of them as well!

Having trouble figuring out what to get that person on your list who already has everything? Why not virtually adopt a shelter animal for them this Christmas! While most of the animals in our care are looking for their #fureverhomes, several of our cats, kittens and dogs are being treated for various medical challenges at the shelter. Before being adopted out into the community, we provide each shelter animal with industry leading medical care to make sure they are happy... and healthy in their new furever homes. Care for these animals comes with great expense to our shelter and we need support from people like you to continue our lifesaving work. For just a $25 a month, a virtual adoption is a simple way to make a positive impact on the life of a shelter animal. For more information on virtual adoptions, please visit our website: lapsbc.ca/get-involved/virtual-adoption/

It's that time of year again... 2021 dog licences are ready for renewal. Get them while they're at a hot discounted price! All dogs within the City and Township of Langley are required to be licensed every year. A licence is a great form of ID for your beloved companion pup and greatly improves the chances of reuniting your dog to its home in the event they go missing. Another awesome reason to get your dog licenced is that partial proceeds from each licence sold help fu...nd the day to day shelter programs at LAPS! This provides support for animals looking for their forever homes. Abide by your bylaws and save animals? That's a win-win! To make things easy, licences for both the City and Township can be purchased and renewed online at lapsbc.ca. If you would prefer to purchase your licence in person, you can visit us at the Patti Dale Animal Shelter 7 days a week from 11 am - 3 pm for our licensing hours. We have a full COVID-19 safety plan in place to protect both the public and our staff.

Safe Inside: A lot can happen to beloved felines when they are allowed to roam unsupervised outdoors. Out of all the creatures that come to our shelter, cats are 83% less likely be reunited with their families as many of them have no ID tracing them back to their home. If your cat does go outdoors alone, please make sure they have multiple forms of ID such as a microchip, tattoo, or a safety collar with tags. Without it, getting them home safe becomes a challenge we commonly face. If you think your contact information on your pet's ID may be outdated, please phone the vet who tattooed or microchipped your pet as soon as possible. This may be the difference between whether or not you will be reunited with a lost pet one day.
