We encourage everyone to get vaccinated once it’s their turn, but until Ontario receives enough vaccines so the majority of Ontarians can be vaccinated, it remains critical for everyone to continue following public health measures. To book your vaccine: covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/

Ontario is committed to investing in infrastructure projects to protect the health and well-being of Ontarians, including investments in long-term care and education-related projects. We are making it possible for communities to get shovel-ready projects underway sooner by providing $1.05 billion in combined federal-provincial funding through the new COVID-19 Resilience stream as part of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP). Tune in to your local news tonight to watch the Premier and I talk about the importance of broadband in HKLB and the provincial funding announced today!

Laurie Scott 30.09.2020

In June, when Premier FordNation and I committed $150 million for our new broadband program called Improving Connectivity for Ontario, I said then: Was this enough? No. Will we do more? Yes.... And today, we are doing more, an additional $680 million more. Ontario, we heard you loud and clear, and that's why today, we've invested even more money to get Ontario #UpToSpeed. Totaling close to $1 billion for broadband, we're improving lives, public health, education and economic development in unserved and underserved communities.

Today is Persons Day. On this day in 1929, the historic decision to include women in the legal definition of persons was handed down by Canada’s highest court of appeal. This gave some women the right to be appointed to the Senate of Canada and paved the way for women's increased participation in public and political life. Today, we remember those who contributed to the fight for gender equity. Interesting fact, the first group of Canadian women to vote in a federal election were the Nursing Sisters of the First World War, some of whom were from the Kawartha Lakes. #PersonsDay

Celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in our community with a throwback to the 2018 Women Leading Girls Award presentation. This program acknowledges women and girls who demonstrate exceptional leadership, inspire others through their devotion to community service and are strong role models who encourage future generations to become involved in making their community a better place for everyone. The 2018 recipients include Bella Alderton and Penny Chatson of Women’s Resources in Lindsay, Evelyn Chamber of the Lindsay Agricultural Society and Sadie-Jane Hickson a student at the University of Guelph.
