Fire prevention officers are making adjustments to our public education presentations during this pandemic. Officers have continued to educate students with home fire safety and businesses with events like fire drills or fire extinguisher training. We are highly engaged and prepared to deal with our current state of Pandemic and as the cases of Covid-19 Increase in our response area we are attempting to keep you and our staff safe with best practice disinfection and cleaning processes. This virus is keeping us on our toes and we are constantly evaluating and improving our practice as needed. Our Paramedic Firefighters may look a little different when they show up at a scene these days. We are using our Personal Prote...ctive Equipment (PPE) like it is going out of style on every call and even around the station when social distancing cannot be maintained. All of this equipment use is designed to protect ourselves and the public from transmissions of any pathogen we encounter. When we respond to emergencies in our response area it is very important to us to ensure that our units and staff do not spread potential infection. Currently we are using a product and technology from AMG Medical called Nocospray and Nocolyse that helps us disinfect our ambulance’s, Fire Engines and stations at a very high level. This disinfection practice happens post every suspected Covid-19 call and anything our staff would attend to that may leave them to believe a pathogen could be spread. Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services is committed to best practice cleaning and disinfection to help ensure your stay with us is safe and that our staff are healthy and ready to respond to your needs.

As of October 21 - Even though the City of Lethbridge is currently considered low risk for fire, due to the COVID pandemic, we will be keeping the fire ban in effect for the river bottom area. As much as we would love for citizens to enjoy a bonfire with family and friends in the river bottom, it is very difficult to maintain social distancing around a campfire, especially when numbers for public gatherings can reach up to 50 persons. The attached video shows what happens when you put water on a grease fire. Please remember that the best way to put out a grease fire is with an extinguisher. However if one is not available you can also use Baking Soda or the lid to the pot or pan. If you have any question please contact the Lethbridge Fire Prevention Bureau. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPvM_OOd5rY
