"The 2020 Homeless Count in Metro Vancouver, which took place on March 3 and 4, identified 3,634 individuals as experiencing homelessness. The total number of individuals counted remained relatively consistent with the 2017 count, with an overall increase of 29 individuals from the 3,605 individuals identified in the 2017 count. Detailed data analysis is ongoing and will inform the final report, which will be released later this fall. Applications to help Canadians with employment rights In the wake of COVID-19, many Canadians find themselves out of work or unsure when (or if) they will be going back to their jobs. These situations open workers up to exploitation, particularly if they do not understand their legal rights or have access to an employment lawyer. Today was full of community consults in the DownTown East Side to develop a COVID-19 DTES Food Security Map which will be updated daily during the pandemic as Vancouver is now in a state of emergency and our city's most vulnerable are really needing support. Not everyone is as fortunate to be able to buy what they need and are reliant on feeding programs to survive. Sadly due to the pandemic, some of these food programs are overloaded and lacking funding. On the map, you will... find the links to donate when you click the icons as well as handwashing stations.
