With Christmas approaching, and families starting to plan their annual get togethers, we are often reminded of others who are not fortunate enough to have a warm holiday meal to share with the ones they love. This year, the Little Free Pantry Tweed is excited to announce we will be donating one entire Christmas Dinner to a deserving local family. The meal will include a turkey, potatoes, veggies, fresh buns, gravy and (of course) dessert! ... Hello all, I have been receiving numerous messages lately about only a few people being able to benefit from the pantry instead of the food being equally distributed between those in need. With this, there has been suggestions for security measures such as signs, cameras and even personal monitoring of the pantry. I want to clarify I will NOT be putting forth any measures to limit what a person can or can not take. One of the great parts about the pantry is privacy; members... of our community are able to access the pantry 24 hours a day, 7 days a week providing discreet visits . This is simply just the way many Little Free Pantrys often operate. Please do not misunderstand, I know that the food security issue in Tweed is a problem, and that's why I created this venture in the first place. With that being said, it also means it will take more than just one person, or one initiative to solve the problem. If any one has any ideas or possible solutions, I encourage you to do more research, get friends and family involved, and create a sustainable plan. I will offer guidance, help and support when I can, but running something like the pantry takes a LOT of work and I am only one person. If anyone is interested in giving back to the community this holiday season, please consider the Little Free Pantry! Although I try to keep up with the demand, the pantry gets cleaned out within hours everytime it is replenished. We need to ensure each person has enough to eat every day. The reverse Advent calendar is a great way to get friends and family members involved in giving back this season. Starting December first, you put one item into a basket each day until Christmas, until you have created a small stockpile of food, toiletries and toys for local families. Through first hand experience, I can assure you that these items will not only be used, but very appreciated.
