Populations of the American Kestrel are declining across North America, and the reason is yet to be discovered. Using Lotek tags, the American Kestrel Partnership trapped and tagged a number of these birds in order to collect vital information on winter survival and migration. SOFO’s Shark Research and Education Program team had a spectacular double-header yesterday! Led by Capts. Greg Metzger and Matt Berkhout, the team satellite tag...ged both our first juvenile white shark of the season AND the program’s first dusky shark! Almost a year later, a tag recovery from a particularly feisty porbeagle named "Teazer" means that Sulikowski Shark and Fish Conservation Lab will gain even greater insight into the data collected. We can't wait to see the results!

To get from their summer nesting habitat in Alaska to their winter-feeding grounds in South America, Lesser Yellowlegs travel up to 8,000 miles. This boreal nesting shorebird has declined by 70-80% since the 1970s.
