Unfair Employer I just wanted to let you know the results of a letter sent for us on our behalf by [a lawyer]. After what we felt was a breach of contract with a company that my husband was recently working for, [the lawyer] consulted with us, reviewed our documents and then sent a letter for us demanding compensation. Two weeks later, we received a cheque from the company for $6,814.90 for vacation pay not yet taken, as agreed upon in the contract. ... Also, as it turns out, because we know what our rights are from the advice given by [our lawyer], we can still go after the company for another $4,500.00 where they illegally deducted worker’s safety benefits from our cheque. Because LegalShield informed us of our rights, we made another phone call to a certain government department where they will investigate this company and force them to pay back our $4,500.00 That’s a total of $11,314.00 we would have walked away from, had we not had our LegalShield membership. Medical Insurance Claims: I had had a brain tumor removed in ’97. Evidently, I had a rider on my policy that stated if I was ever seriously ill for a period of time, I did not have to pay on the insurance policy. My new insurance agent wanted me to know that I had money that should be returned to me and she put in a claim in my name. Over the next two months, the claim representatives were sending me letters and wanted doctor’s results, CT scans, etc. ... I had been nice at first and given them as much as I had. Finally, I decided that this was not right, since I wasn’t even the one that turned in the claim. I called my LegalShield Provider Law Firm and they had me fax them the latest letter from the claim adjuster and a copy of the rider to my policy. They immediately sent a letter off to the claim agent. Within a week I received a check for over $6900.00 and was also notified that I did not have to pay on my life insurance again until the following year! So they actually saved me many thousands of dollars ON TOP OF the $6900.00. That was my first experience with LegalShield. I will be a member for life and now my entire family. Another Happy member. We LOVE living on our yacht, "Slice Of Life". It's the best lifestyle anyone could imagine but sometimes there are minor drawbacks . . . And sometimes big ones too. A few months ago, we discovered that seawater had somehow seeped into our engines ruining them to the tune of $120,000! Talk about BAD NEWS! Member Story Criminal ID Theft: I recently applied for a part-time job. The manager asked me if I could come in for an interview the next day. When I got there I was greeted by three police officers who asked a bunch of questions about my ID. One of the officers told me they were detaining me because they had reason to believe that I was responsible for vehicle theft and check fraud. They handcuffed me and placed me in the car and took me away to the police stati...on. As soon as a detective came into my holding room I asked to speak with my attorney immediately. For some reason, the detective was shocked of my request. ‘You have an attorney?’ was how the detective responded. I said yes and after a brief stare-down, the detective left. About five minutes later, the officer who placed the handcuffs on me came back with a phone and said, ‘Mr. Torres here’s your phone so you can call your attorney, is there anything else you need?’ I was shocked that he was even calling me Mr. Torres because at the establishment, he literally was going to have my head for just talking. I called the law firm, explained the situation and then eventually we got the ID Theft Shield specialists on the line as well. Another officer came in and gave me some water followed by him saying, ‘Mr. Torres is there anything else we can get for you at this time?’ The investigators explained to me that, based on the information they had, my identity had been compromised. They were able to figure out the last place where my information was being used. I then spoke with the attorney and said they were going to be letting me go and if they gave me any more problems to call back immediately. The detective came in and expressed the police department’s apologies. I was then let go. Looking back, I remained quite calm during that emotional ordeal that day knowing I had professionals watching my back just a phone call away. The member called our LegalShield provider law firm quite upset. Her house had burned down and her home owner’s insurance company was denying the $250,000.00 claim. Most attorneys would jump at the chance to take that case on a contingency of about $80,000.00 but our firm opted to help her at no additional charge under the included provision of letters and phone calls. Our attorney first contacted the member’s insurance company's attorney to encourage them to pay the claim. ...The answer: still denied. He next wrote a letter to her insurance company, demanding immediate payment, or we would file suit for the $250K, court costs, attorney's fees, and, as provided under state law, three times the damages for bad-faith denial of their client's claim and their outrageous behavior. The insurance company promptly replied back that they had reconsidered, and would pay the claim. The frosting on the cake? The executives of the local branch of the insurance company took the member out to lunch to apologize for the way everything was handled. How much did this cost the member? Member Story - Credit Card Processing: A restaurant owner who was promised a certain rate on his merchant card machine so he signed a 4-year contract because it was a good rate. A few months later, the rate started creeping up. he wasted hours upon hours and spent months trying to get them to fix it every time the rate went up, nothing but he's stuck with a contract and afraid of a hefty termination fee....
