Tomorrow is Remembrance Day and with COVID-19 we know that things will be different. However, Prince George Retirement would like to organize a special event f...or one of their Veteran residents tomorrow. They are asking those interested to meet at the parking lot beside Canada Post to gather in their cars only at 1:45pm and drive down past Prince George for an appreciation drive by for Wally Christie, who will be outside at 2pm. Here is Wally’s story: Wally joined the Army in Nova Scotia when he was 24/25, 1942. He trained in Debert Nova Scotia, Camp Petawawa and did some driver training out of the Kitchener and Woodstock area. He went to England on a troopship and spent several months there. He went to France and landed at Juno Beach about two weeks after DDAY. He served in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Early was a driver in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He was attached to several different units. By the end of the war he was doing prisoner escorts. He finished the war as a Private. He was discharged in 1946. After landing in New York City he went back to Nova Scotia. Wally has been a Legion member for 70 years. If you are comfortable, please join in at 1:45pm at the parking lot while staying in your cars with COVID-19 restrictions in mind.
