#DidYouknow that there are four main classes for visible-beam lasers: Class 2, Class 3R, Class 3B and Class 4? These classes distinguish lasers by power output and level of safety concern. Class 2 (0-1 mW) and Class 3R (1- 5 mW) are considered to be relatively safe for unintentional eye and skin exposure. But what about Class 3B and 4?... Class 3B lasers are between 5- 500 mW in power and pose a MEDIUM risk for eye injury. There is a medium risk because they are less than 500 mW in power and cannot heat up skin or damage eyes instantly. It can only become dangerous if there is intentional and prolonged exposure. In comparison, class 4 lasers are lasers that have more than 500 mW in power. These pose a SEVERE risk for eye and skin exposure as it is able to heat up skin and materials instantly.
