In the pandemic lockdown of 2020/21 many thoughts pass through my mind in a day. They range from hope to isolation to despair to new possibilities and concern for all of us on this little blue planet. Take good care.
New date to see lots of great art on the WEST spring tour is June 5 and 6th. It will be fun.
A little sky dancing over the Deschenes rapids on the mighty Ottawa river.
A lot of looking. My world has increasingly become one of looking at screens. I see a lot of others looking back. I try not to judge groups of people I don’t know. To make them abstract. If they become abstract to me, then I am more vulnerable to messaging that has an agenda. All while looking at screens and listening to the news.
Detail from a large painting called Ombres. It’s about all of us on this little blue planet.
Bathing at the Beach with your Submarine. This work is based on my uncle Jim Harrison’s 1954 slide of a US submarine at a bathing beach near Chicago. The original slide and the component pieces are also shown. The people bathing at the beach seem to be completely at ease with a submarine just sitting there. This is the time of the Korean War. The graphic elements, the texts and the emojis, are visualizations from various texts that were analyzed, viewed as a connected word map network, and rendered as texts and emojis. They add a discourse to the tolerant silence in the original slide between the bathers and the submarine.
So we are on the first steps of algorithm inter-interpretation. What do 4 years of tweets look like in a visual algorithm mind map? And what the hell does that look like as a 2021 emoji? That’s what I am interested in. How can we visually look at crazy stuff in time that happened in reality and fantasy.
The Purse. The big leather kind that opens wide from the top. Acrylic mono print on mylar. 2020. 7.5 by 9.5 in 13 by 17 black frame with white matt.
Where I am at 9.08. These are 45’s tweets from the last seven days, visualized from the relevant text connections in all the tweets. The peaks are words most connected to other words. And then they are visualized in various ways. So what 45 tweeted visualized.

Work in progress about evolving civilizations on our blue rock. How we eye each other. Throughout history when one civilization declined another rose up and the victors wrote the history. In the era of climate change, we all, indigenous citizens of planet earth, need to evolve and quickly.

Got a light? I need to light my smoke. In a certain time, yes I can remember, there was a whole ritual around lighting a smoke. If you were a lady or a guy there was an intimate moment shared between the light provider and the smoker. You had to lean in. There was no app for that. 2020. Got a LightOriginal (8"x12" in 13" by 17" frame) and prints available.
