Another Day another Vaccine Update: It was announced yesterday evening that starting on Sunday May 23rd anyone 12 years of age and older can schedule through WECHU or participating pharmacies to get vaccinated. This is a shift from our most recent update where only 12+ with health conditions were eligible! When booking for anyone under the age 16 please note a parent or guardian must accompany them to provide consent and that the patient must be 12 or older on the day they re...ceive the vaccine. Good morning everyone! Time for another (much shorter) vaccine update! Today the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario Dr. Williams announced an "unpausing" of AstraZeneca for second doses of vaccines only beginning next week. He announced that anyone who received their first dose of AstraZeneca between March 10th and March 19th would be eligible to receive a second dose if they want. This is done because the risk of Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia (th...e blood clot seen with first doses) is much lower in the second dose compared to the first. Dr. Williams further instructed people to contact the pharmacy or office where they got their first dose. We have not received our official orders to proceed from the Ministry of Health and until we get those we cannot do anything, more over since most pharmacies in Windsor-Essex don't have AZ we won't know how many people or when to schedule for until we get confirmation of how many vaccines we will get. Many pharmacies are in the middle of crazy days administering Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to our community and we were given no warning of this change. Please have patience and compassion when calling to speak to the location you got your vaccine. They are overwhelmed and many of them didn't have the ability to listen to this mornings press conference and are just finding this out when you call. Many will be caught off-guard, please be kind. We are all doing what we can to help with this unprecedented public health initiative but many of my colleagues involved in vaccination directly are at the end of their physical and mental rope, this has been an incredible undertaking but we need your support as much as you need us to provide the vaccine. Good news for our Seniors! Despite what you might read about the Government "Increasing the threshold" for seniors to qualify as low income Ontario Drug Benefit Recipients this is actually a good thing! It is worded very poorly in the release below but what this does is allow more seniors living on a tight fixed income to access the reduced copay options! What is the reduced co-pay for seniors? It means that you do not have to pay the $100 annual deductible and your co-pay f...or covered medicines drops from $6.11 to $2.00. At Main Street Pharmacy however it means your co-pay drops from $4.11 to $0 for all covered medicines as we waive $2.00 on all our ODB recipients co-pays! If you are a single (for tax purposes) senior over the age of 65 or will be turning 65 this year you now qualify for the reduced co-pay plan if you make less than $22,200 per year! If you are a senior couple (for tax purposes) over the age of 65 or you will be turning 65 this year you now qualify for the reduced co-pay plan if you make less than $37,100 per year as a couple! It is also important that you know this is NOT automatic you need to apply for it by filling out the form at the website below! Our friends at McGregor Medical Pharmacy had a fire occur in their building that has rendered them temporarily inoperable. We are helping them out by taking care of their patients until they are able to secure a temporary location. So if you stop in you may see some new faces and when you call there may be a delay in answering or it might go to voicemail if both lines... are in use. I want to reassure all my patients that we are still here to care for you in the same manner we always have, just with some new friends working alongside us. Good morning everyone! First off I want to thank you for your patience regarding flu shots! As a small pharmacy we received only 25 doses as our initial order. We will be able to order 20 doses of the regular and 20 doses of the high dose per day and anticipate being able to complete all our pre-order patients by Wednesday and at that point we will begin doing first come first served walk-ins and some evening flu clinics! In the spirit of <3 Local, I'd like my fellow small business owners to post their picture and give a little history of their business. I think the community should know us, recognize us and appreciate us. We are in desperate times. Thank you to Beth from My Cousins Closet for starting this off. My name is Aaron Nixon and I am the owner and operator of Main Street Pharmacy and Wellness Centre right here in downtown Kingsville. I opened Main Street Pharmacy and Wellness Centre... with three friends and local Essex County Pharmacists in October of 2017. Owning a pharmacy was always my goal, so that I can help take care of my patients like they're family! I was born and raised in Tecumseh, and went to BRDHS, where I first started in pharmacy co-oping at the Belle River Shoppers Drugmart. I attended Wayne State University where I received my pharmacy degree, worked for a time and came back home to Essex County to open a pharmacy to care for people my way. 2020 has been an incredibly different and difficult year for me personally, with my significant other being in the Detroit area I have not seen her since March. Those of you in our community who have reached out to me, offered comfort, caring and support it has been greatly appreciated. This time has been difficult on many in our community, and I am happy to have been able to be here to help those who were and are continuing to struggle. Starting today it is mandatory to wear a mask entering any commercial establishment in Windsor Essex County. This has been ordered by WECHU to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and help our region enter Phase 2! If you don't have one don't worry we sell both medical grade and homemade masks (proceeds of the homemade masks to the Kingsville Food Bank).
