On May 12, 1943, Patrick Hennessy sent a postcard from Dublin, Ireland, back to Beatrice Hennessy. As Melynda Jarratt explains in her book Letters from Beauly, ...Pat was granted a second privileged leave to travel to Northern Ireland. From letters he wrote during that trip, we know he crossed the border into the south and spent time in Dublin, where he stayed at O’Neill’s Hotel and Restaurant on Gardiner Street, near Nelson’s Pillar, touring around the city and even visitin...g Dublin Zoo. [In] an army ‘Permission to Travel’ form is a clue about how Pat managed to travel to a country in which he had no known relatives. Under the column ‘Name and Address of Relative’ appears the name ‘Miss Bella Leach of Ballemena [sic], Northern Ireland’ - an aunt whom Pat is supposedly visiting. As there was no known Hennessy relative in the whole of Ireland, and certainly not an aunt by the name of Bella Leach, one can come to no other conclusion than that Pat...lied on his application form, drawing into question the ‘thorough reliability’ to which his commanding officer so willingly vouched! --- Le 12 mai, 1943, Patrick Hennessy a envoyé une carte postale de Dublin, en Irlande, à Beatrice Hennessy. As the back to school season approaches, I thought I would share this photo that I found in the archives! As Patsy Hennessy explained to me, Moyer School Supplies Ltd. was a Canadian school and office supply company which began in 1884. Pictured is the cover of their 1935-1936 catalogue. I remember the catalogue vaguely, because my grandmother ordered items from there. Most likely because she always tutored all the children right up to our generation as an addition to their ...regular schooling. She had been a teacher before she got married. It would not surprise me if there is still one hanging around somewhere in the family. --- Puisque la rentrée scolaire se rapproche, je voulais partager cette photo que j’ai trouvé dans les archives! Caraquet / Nepisiquit Le 1er novembre 1783 Cette chronique du Moniteur Des Provinces Maritimes relate le tragique événement qu’a vécut la famille d’Olivier Blan...chard, cet illustre pionnier de Caraquet. Le 1er novembre 1793, trois des fils d’Olivier, Thaddée, Fidèle et Romain se rendaient en canot (le seul moyen de transport de l’époque) de Caraquet à Nepisiquit (Bathurst) pour le marriage de Thaddée, lorsque leur embarcation chavira à la hauteur de Bass River. Les trois frères périrent noyés. Leurs dépouilles sont enterrées dans le cimetière de la paroisse Sainte-Famille de Bathurst Ouest. La fiancée, Pélagie Doucet, descendante du premier Doucet arrivé à Nepisiquit, mariera plus tard le frère aîné de Thaddée, Raphaël. Une nombreuse descendance s’en suivit. Avec la collaboration de Denise Blanchard et Charles Blanchard, descendants d’Olivier Blanchard.

A 1979 newspaper clipping announced that Dr. Robert Hennessy MD was awarded a Fellowship in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (FCFP): Receives Fellowship Dr. Robert D. Hennessy a physician practicing in Bathurst was awarded a fellowship in Family Medicine at the 25th Anniversary Assembly of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. The presentation was made at the opening ceremonies on Sunday May 20th at the Chateau Laurier, Ottawa. Dr. Hennessy was one of 19 phys...icians receiving a fellowship. A story from Patsy Hennessy on James Bunny Hennessy, who joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II: James was the lead sergeant for the mechanics crew of the plane of George Frederick "Buzz" Beurling and was with him through the war. At one point, they were both in Chatham and Beurling went with Bunny to visit the family in Bathurst. One day in Chatham, he and Bunny were standing and talking by a power pole. Beurling was leaning against the pole, cigarette in ...mouth and hands in his pockets. A senior officer was passing and stopped and berated Beurling for his careless and disrespectful comportment. He then went on to tell Beurling that he "would never get anywhere in this Air Force." After the fact, George Frederick Buzz Beurling actually went on to be the most successful Canadian fighter pilot of the Second World War. --- Une histoire de Patsy Hennessy sur James Bunny Hennessy, qui s’est engagé à L’Aviation royale du Canada (ARC) durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale: James était le sergent principal pour l’équipe des mécaniciens de l’avion de George Frederick Buzz Beurling, et était avec lui durant la guerre.
