**PSA: Votes should be EARNED, not bought** The team and I are so very humbled to be nominated for 7 Tribune Reader's Choice awards this year! The support of our loyal customers and the community have been our saving grace in this year of adversity and uncertainty, and I am forever grateful to all of you. That being said, last year as well as this year I've noticed something that doesn't quite sit well with me. I've noticed some businesses holding contests and 'giveaways' to ...thank people for their support. However, to enter these giveaways a vote must be cast for them in their respective categories. To me, 1) It doesn't exactly seem like a giveaway if you have to do anything (other than cast your entry) or give anything back in order to enter; and 2) Should a vote not be earned based on merit and excellence in your field alone? It seems like votes are being bought; and it gives an unfair advantage over other nominees who deserve it just as much, if not more. Now, before someone says "You're just jealous", "you don't like competition", or something of the like, know this: NONE of what we do is for acclaim or accolades. Am I humbled and grateful to be nominated? ABSOLUTELY. Is it the end of our world if someone else gets an award and we don't? Absolutely NOT. I started this business to support my family and to do what I love, work with people and for people. Awards are simply a bonus that tells us we're doing our jobs properly and that we're keeping our customers happy- as they should be. I'll not ramble on, but anyone who knows me knows that kindness and fairness are VERY important things to me, and if I notice something not quite right, I'll speak up about it. This year, vote for your favourite businesses, WHOEVER that may be! But do it because you love their service, work and product; not because there's the chance of reward in exchange for your vote.
