Mauni Amavasya - 10 Rituals For The Day Of Silence. On February 11th 2021 a unique Hindu tradition is celebrated called Mauni or Mauna Amavasya. It usually falls on the fifteenth day during the dark fortnight in the month of January/February and is observed on the no-Moon day, known as Amavasya. It is also known as Magha Amavasya as it is usually observed during the month of Magha.... The word mauni’ or mauna’ signifies silence, so on this special day it is the perfect time to observe silence in your own life, to attain a calm and restless mind. A day dedicated to spiritual practices and to gain knowledge and happiness in our lives. ‘Ama’ means together and ‘Vasya’ means to live. It means to ‘live’ or ‘dwell’ together. Therefore Amavasya means to co-exist with absolute silence - silence with the ever-jumping mind by restraining it through Mauna or silence. It is believed that the water of the most sacred and holy river in Hinduism, the Ganga, turns into the nectar on Mauni Amavasya day. Therefore it is also considered the most important day in Hindu calendar to take a holy dip in the River Ganges, often resulting in millions gathering on its banks known as the Kumbh Mela festival. This year Mauni Amavasya is even more significant as Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Sun, Moon and Mercury will all gather in Capricorn from 9th-11th February - a transit that will impact the whole world. It will effect many facets of our responsibilities, actions, karmas and dharma (cosmic law). If you have pitra dosha (an astrological combination in a chart that occurs due to the actions of ancestors), kaal sarp dosha (a malefic astrological combination of planets in a chart related to past deeds or karma), or grahan dosha (when born during a Solar or Lunar eclipse) or any malefic ‘yogas’, then it would be even more beneficial for you to follow all these rituals, in particular the silence, meditation, prayer, and fasting.

Ketu ~ Working on your spiritual life. Ketu, the shadow planet of spirituality and imagination, shifts into the second pada (part) of Jyeshta in the sign of Scorpio from January 27th to March 30th. Pada two of this asterism falls in Capricorn Navamsa the relationship and spirituality subchart which gives you a strong organizing instinct and the ability to impose structure on your life and business.... Jyeshta nakshatra’s symbol is the Umbrella, or talisman, which shows protection and the desire to help, so you may be taking on more work during this transit, especially using spiritual techniques of meditation to smooth your way. Ketu’s ethereal nature and Capricorn’s solid, worldly style are a long way apart, but you can use the dynamic to give discipline to your yoga practice, for example, or impose a deadline on to your creative writing. The sweet-spot here is between escapism and control, where each side benefits from the other, and a flash of intuition may solve a real-world problem where otherwise you are left in the dark.

Rahu ~ Do things differently at home. The two nodes of the moon Rahu and Ketu move to new energy portals and this is what it means for you.... Rahu, the shadow planet of rebellion and desire, enters the fourth pada (part) of Rohini is within the sign of Taurus from January 27th, where it stays until March 30th.... Taurus is a strong sign for Rahu, and Rohini is one of the truly auspicious nakshatras, famous for looks and charm, a romantic nature and links with planting and agriculture. Its Shakti, or special power, is ‘To Grow All Things’, and even with Rahu’s offbeat style, plans flourish in this asterism and you can make good contacts. Pada Four of Rohini is ruled by Cancer navamsha the chart of relationship and spirituality so this area has an additional domestic quality where you attend to health and emotional wellbeing. This is a good transit for all things around the home, both from a security and an aesthetic side, and you have a flair for furnishings and décor, as well as hospitality and making people feel comfortable. As Mars joins Rahu in Rohini nakshatra around 16th March do expect a revolutionary like situation in the world..fingers crossed. Blessings of the almighty..

Chandra Namaskar (Moon Salutations) and Astrology It’s Full Moon tomorrow (28th January), do this ritual to strengthen Moon in your chart on this day. Chandra means Moon, Namaskar means to salute or to honour, Chandra Namaskar is a Moon ritual where we worship and honour the Moon.... Whilst Chandra Namaskars have not been around as long as Surya Namaskars, the concept of looking to the Moon for rejuvenation is not new. Moon was regarded as a source of immortality in the Shiva Samhita, a 500+ year old Tantric Text. Surya Namaskar heats our bodies giving us internal fire and passion, whereas Chandra Namaskar is a quieting sequence that provides a method of cooling the body, replenishing vital energy and helps channelize the Moon’s cool, relaxing, and creative qualities. There is more focus on slow, steady breathing when doing Chandra Namaskar, including puraka (inhalation), kumbhaka (retention) and rechaka (exhalation). It is important to move slowly, focusing on the flow and savouring the practice. The practice is literally all about chilling out! Chandra Namaskar stretches and strengthens the spine, legs, arms, back, and stomach and is best practiced in the evening on an empty stomach. Sunset is the optimum time, when the Moon is out to calm the mind, preparing our body for winding down for the evening. It is fine however to do it at any time of the day. In addition to the time of the day, there are astrological moments in a month when you can practice since our energy is lower during these days and also to strengthen the Moon in our chart. 1: Pranamasana (Prayer pose) Stand at the edge of your mat, keep your feet together and balance your weight equally on both the feet. Expand your chest and relax your shoulders. As you breathe in, lift both arms up from the sides and as you exhale, bring your palms together in front of the chest in prayer position. 2: Hasta Uttanasana (Raised Arms pose) Breathing in, lift the arms up and back, keeping the biceps close to the ears. In this pose, the effort is to stretch the whole body up from the heels to the tips of the fingers. To deepen the stretch you can push the pelvis forward a little bit and reach up with your fingers rather than trying to bend backwards. Bring the palms together and salute the Moon. 3: Hasta Padasana (Hand to Foot pose) Breathing out, bend forward from the waist, keeping the spine erect. As you exhale completely, bring the hands down to the floor, beside the feet, bend the knees if necessary to bring the palms down to the floor. Start the practice with a feeling of grace and gratitude towards the energy of the Moon.

Saturn ~ Listen and learn. Saturn, planet of karma and hard work, is in pada one of Shravana nakshatra within the sign of Capricorn from January 22nd to February 20th 2021 Saturn is at home in this sign where it gives potential for long-term planning and building, and smart thinking now sets you up into the future. Shravana pada one, however relates to Aries navamsha the underlying spiritual and relationship dimension where Saturn is weak, so there is a tension here betwe...en achieving conventional success and your willingness to play the longer game. Rushing ahead in Mars-ruled Aries style is not the way, and though you may have energy and initiative, only by staying the course will you ground your desires in the real world. Shravana nakshatra is symbolized by an Ear, which has associations with oral wisdom, speech and listening, so your communication and choice of words are vital too. Making a strong argument is key, but sticking by your word, being a good listener, and tuning out gossip are points to remember. It is tempting to simply go with your own point of view, or take opinions at face value, but accepting other people’s arguments also gives you a new outlook. Shravana’s Shakti, or unique gift, is for Connection, so making a mental link and bringing other people in on your discussions makes a creative situation. This transit is good for public speaking, lecturing and studying, as well as for slow and disciplined spiritual practices like yoga and especially mantra-chanting. There is a collection of planets currently in the sign of Capricorn, where Saturn holds the balance of power, especially with a Mercury retrograde period arriving at the end of January. Decisions you make now are influential beyond the immediate time, and consolidation and gradual build-up hold the answer. Listen & learn
