Maybe you don't have that one perfect gardening plot, but you want to try your hand at growing something this year. Or maybe you don't have the space for a big ...garden. Well, that's okay! You can grow many things in containers on your deck, or your balcony, or in a very bright window (or under lights). I started a couple of pots of lettuce today to show how its done. Lettuce is easy, adaptable, and grows fast so you can reap your rewards sooner rather than later. When choosing the container it's important to consider the roots of what you're growing, since I'm planting lettuce today I want a container that's wide and shallow to maximize surface area and not waste depth on plant with small root systems. For other vegetables I would change the shape of the container to suit their needs. The next thing to consider is your soil. Since this is container gardening you want to use potting mix, not regular garden dirt. The big reason for that is that garden dirt will compact and crush the roots of your plants without the help of aerators (worms and bugs) who do us a big favour by constantly moving the soil. Then... you plant! The nice thing about container gardening is that you can move your babies around to get the maximum benefit of daylight, rain, etc, to ensure their growth. And you can bring them in on chilly nights so you can get a head start by planting now! Topsy Farms is leading the charge on encouraging people to start their own #VictoryGarden this year. I hope to be able to help in some small way. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! I love this stuff.

One of my very favourite gardening blogs, especially this time of year with its excellent seed roundup. I see they are as crushed as I am about the closure of The Cottage Gardener Heirloom Seedhouse one of my very favourite seed suppliers and for a long time the best source of some truly unique seed varieties (I'm going to have to step up my seed-saving game this year!). https://seasonalontariofood.blogspot.com//seed-catalogue-r

1. Taste Real Flavors The fruits and vegetables you buy at the farmers market are the freshest and tastiest available. Fruits are allowed to ripen fully in the field and are brought directly to youno long-distance shipping, no gassing to simulate the ripening process, no sitting for weeks in storage. This food is as real as it getsfresh from the farm.

Hi again! New survey! Can you help me decide *what* to grow, please? This survey asks about varieties and colours, etc. If you would take it that would be awesome. It's 7 questions longs.

If you haven't had a chance to take the survey it only takes a few minutes and helps so much. Thank you to the folks who've already taken the survey! Your answers have been super helpful!
