Did you know that we don't have rabbits in our region? We have Snowshoe Hares. Besides being larger than rabbits, they have different life styles and adaptatio...ns due to their habitats. Snowshoe Hare fur changes with the seasons. Brown for the summer through fall, they turn white to blend in for the winter months. Hares tend to be loners, and even after giving birth, the mother hare will leave her young for many hours at a time. Feeding them only once-twice a day, young snowshoe hares are pretty much on their own from the beginning. They are born fully furred, eyes open and mobile very quickly. Most times when you see a lone, young hare they are fine. They are not orphaned, mom just leaves them while she is feeding. It is best to leave the leverets alone, keep pets and humans away, and let them carry on with their foraging. When we do have to admit young ones (found with injuries, mom is known to be deceased) we try to keep them quiet and isolated. This leveret (a baby snowshoe hare) is shown here getting her twice daily meal of formula....we then do the same as momma hare and leave her alone for the remainder of the day, allowing her to munch away at grasses and fruits. This little beauty recently reached the appropriate size, where she was no longer dependent on being nursed, eating completely on her own and was just released! See more

May kicks off the season for asthma and allergies in many of us, and so it shouldn't surprise us that seasonal allergies can also impact our cats. Seasonal or y...ear-round allergies can be caused by pollen, mold, dander, dust, flea bites, and other irritants in the environment. There are many signs to look for to see if your cat is possibly suffering from allergies. If you identify some of these signs, you can then work with your veterinarian to diagnose and treat your feline friend so you can both be more comfortable. Check out this allergy infographic, and some additional information on feline asthma if you fear your cat may be suffering. https://hubs.ly/H0Mkynp0

Like many of us, spending more time at home means more walks with your dog, or play time with your cat. All the extra movement can mean extra stress on their joints. Keep an eye out for any changes in your pet with a mobility test and contact us if you have any concerns: https://www.mypetshealth.ca/eng/mobility-test
