Welcome to our 3/5 post series on How To Burn Fire Wood and Build and Eficient Fire. 4. BURN A HOT FIRE Start your fire by burning it hot for 30 minutes. Smold...ering low temperature fires produce creosote (black sooty substance) that can line your chimney and risk causing a dangerous chimney fire. Burning a hot fire will help maintain adequate venting temperatures and limit creosote deposits. All EPA certified stoves (catalytic and non catalytic) work best if you begin with a hot fire. #fireplacelove #firewood #wood #chimney #chimneysweep #chimneyinspections #nanaimo #cowichanvalley #victoria #vancouver #yycliving #campfire #newfireplace #homemaintenance See more

At what temperature should your wood stove heat? Here are some guidelines for optimal temperature, measured by a thermometer on a single-walled pipe: 100-275...F: temperature is too low. Fire can be difficult to maintain and can cause the accumulation of smoke, creosote and soot in the chimney. Add wood and/or increase air intake. 275-475F: this is the optimal operation range. Ideally, do not keep your stove at lower (around 275F) and higher (around 475F) temperatures for too long. 475F and more: temperature is too high. The stove can reach these temperatures during the initial ignition period but avoid maintaining your stove at this level for a prolonged period. See more
