A quick reminder that between now and December 22nd, our Markham, Stoufville, Scarborough, and Oshawa locations will be accepting donations of non-perishable goods, to assist our fellow community members during the holiday season. Now, more than ever, we want to be a support to those in need.
To our wonderful patients; As healthcare professionals and doctors, we have always followed the highest standard of infection prevention and control practices. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we implemented enhanced precautions to keep our patients safe and smiling. These enhanced safety measures ensured zero transmissions in our offices despite having seen hundreds of patients since reopening following the spring closure period. Following today's announcement from the ...Government of Ontario regarding the updated lockdown measures for Toronto, we wanted to clarify for our patients that the announcement does not affect the operation of orthodontic clinics. In alignment with our health and dental authorities, we will remain open for your care. Stay safe and smiling, Your Smile Team

On Friday, October ...16th, the Ontario government introduced new COVID-19 restrictions for businesses in York Region. Whether youre continuing to homeschool or sending your kids back to school next week, these #bracesfriendly ham & cheese rolls are a quick and easy lunch option you can make the night before school #FoodieFriday
Why do we observe #NationalToothFairyDay at docbraces? The Canadian Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have an early orthodontic evaluation by age seven, so we designed our #LaterGator program with fun activities to get kids more comfortable with visiting the Orthodontist and maintaining good oral hygiene. One of our favourite things is seeing their "How I lost my First Tooth" story submissions.
Eggs are a great way to start your day so you won’t be hungry before lunch especially if you combine them with meat, cheese and veggies. #BracesFriendly #foodiefriday Ingredients 6 eggs, beaten teaspoon black pepper... Pinch salt 1 teaspoon butter 1/3 cup mushrooms, finely sliced 1/3- cup grated cheddar cheese 6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled Directions 1. Turn your oven on to broil. 2. In a medium bowl, mix the eggs, pepper, and salt. 3. In a cast iron or non-stick oven safe frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. 4. Add the the mushrooms and cook for about 2-3 minutes 5. Add the egg mixture to the mushrooms in the pan, and quickly stir in your combination of remaining ingredients. 6. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, until the bottom sets. 7. Transfer to the oven and cook under the broiler for 3-4 minutes, until it is golden on top and appears fluffy. 8. Cut into slices and serve. Our favourite combinations are asparagus and ham; tomato, spinach and goats cheese; and sausage and potato. Feel free to add in anything else you love to eat, like garlic, jalapeno or onion. The list goes on and on! Both the asparagus and mushrooms will need to be cooked prior to being added to the mixture. To do that, add a tablespoon of olive oil to a frying pan over a medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the asparagus/mushrooms and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add to your mixture as you would in Step 5.
Our favourite #bracesfriendly recipes are comfort food. Check out these loaded mashed potatoes for Foodie Friday! Ingredients 4 pounds of Russet potatoes, peeled and cut into quarters 1 teaspoon salt... Freshly ground black pepper 3 tablespoons unsalted butter cup grated cheddar cheese 1 green onion, finely chopped cup sour cream 8 strips of bacon, cooked and cut into small pieces 2 tablespoons chopped chives, for garnish. Directions 1. Place the potatoes in a large pot, add the salt and fill with water to ensure the potatoes are covered by approximately an inch. Boil until soft, about 20 minutes. 2. Drain the potatoes and transfer to a large mixing bowl. You could also use a stand mixer with a large bowl. This will give you a very smooth final result. 3. Add the butter, sour cream and pepper. Mash together to the consistency you like, ensuring the butter and sour cream are evenly dispersed. 4. Add the remaining ingredients, except the chives, and mix well. 5. Top with the chives, and serve.

Keeping up your oral hygiene when you have braces is a lot like what you should be doing to take care of your teeth before and after your bracesit just may involve little more care. Here is a list of what you should be doing to keep your mouth healthy when you have braces!
A friendly reminder that all patients and team members are asked to maintain respectful distancing in waiting areas and in the clinical area. You will notice distancing markers on the floor; please ensure you adhere to these markings when moving about the clinic.

Your Orthodontist will offer you personalized advice when it comes to taking care of your braces, but here are some tips that our past patients have found helpful: Dont use whitening products during your braces treatment, including whitening toothpaste or whitening mouthwash. The whitening agent only works on the place it touches, so for best results, wait until your braces are off before whitening.... You can continue to play sports if you have braces, but if its a high-contact sport, a specially designed mouthguard may need to be worn. The mouthguard is designed to fit comfortably over your braces. Prepare a go kit to take with you through the day. Pack a small bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss and a little bottle of mouthwash. Keep it in your car, purse or backpack. Use lip balm or lip chap. Sometimes people who wear braces find their lips get dry and cracked as their mouth may be open more often. Dont play with your braces. Dont pick at the wires or try to adjust anything yourself.
Every doctor and team member has been equipped with special COVID-19 training before returning to work so we can keep you safe. Learn more about our enhancements and safety procedures in advance of your first appointment in our clinic https://info.docbraces.com/covid #smileSAFE

Many Orthodontists suggest some items that can be useful in taking care of your braces and your oral health. These items include: A Proxy-brush These brushes have very small wire bristles that fit in hard to reach spaces around your braces.... Oral irrigation devices These devices, such as the Water-Pik, allow the user to floss with a strong stream of water. Floss threaders These are thin plastic loops that help you thread the floss between your braces. Mouthwash Choose one that contains fluoride for extra benefits Power toothbrushes If you choose, there are power toothbrushes available with special heads for braces. Plaque tablets Your Orthodontist may have some little tablets that when chewed show where the plaque is so you know where to clean.
Its #SmileTransformationTuesday A more common case, Brett was referred by his dentist for unerupted second permanent molar. docbraces identified a number of dental issues including mild crowding and lower incisal wear due to a deep bite. docbraces knew it would be important to treat Brett to prevent health issues from arising and eliminate the need for more costly, invasive procedures later in life. Brett achieved excellent results in 25 months and 19 total appointments.
