If you asked Avery if porcupines hibernate in the winter, he would tell you they do NOT. Don't worry Avery, this could have been a lot worse! ( Porcupines encounters are less common in the winter because porcupines tend to stay pretty close to home, unlike in the spring and summer when they roam quite far.) . .... #metroanimalemergencyclinic #veterinarylife #porcupineencounter #emergencyveterinarymedicine See more

It's Boxing Day! Any kitty's favourite day of the year...after all, it's all about boxes, right? Actually, Boxing Day is one of the busiest days of the year for the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic. Chocolate toxicity, pancreatitis, acute vomiting/diarrhea, accidental poisoning, traumatic injury, chronic illness, collapse, blocked cats, foreign body surgeries, lacerations, urinary infections, end of life care, and of course all the regular daily issues that can arise when you ...live with animals....we'll see it all and so, so much more. It is a long and exhausting day for staff but one that we prepare for. We try to see everyone as quickly and efficiently as possible, but just like a regular emergency room the more critical and life threatening emergencies are given priority of staff and resources. Wait times are expected, especially for non- emergency cases. We are heavily staffed with emergency experienced assistants, technicians and veterinarians, and everyone is working full out to ensure our patients receive the very best of emergency and critical care . . #metroanimalemergencyclinic #veterinarylife

5 month old Stevie soaked up the love after his traumatic experience! Well, it wasn't *really* traumatic but certainly it was a bit unpleasant. He presented to the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic after eating a zip lock baggie while on a walk. When a dog ingests something they shouldn't, a lot of factors goes into deciding how to proceed. Length of time after ingestion, potential problems, age, breed and general health are all weighed before a decision is made. In Steve's case it was determined that the baggie was better out than in We induced vomiting and he obliged us by bringing it up. And then he needed a few cuddles to finish off his visit Who doesn't love Golden Retriever cuddles?
