An Eye for an Eye, A Tooth for a Tooth! Female Common Merganser with Perch for Dinner Bronte Harbour, Oakville, Ontario, Canada Circa March 2021... Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Story of this photo is: I was ready to go home and call it a day then I saw this lady merganser land on the icy waters of Bronte Harbour and I said to myself - ok 10 more minutes. The sun was going down and the light has this yellow orange glow to it. The merganser began diving and resurfacing for about 5 minutes and suddenly the water was splashing about 5 meters in front of me. The merganser came out from the water with a perch as big as her head. I was caught by surprise and in my excitement started firing away without properly focusing on the subject. Both fish and merganser struggled, it gave me time to regain my composure and shoot deliberately. I realized most of my good captures comes in situations when I’m ready to call it quits and head home. It was a blessing to have captured this image.

This young bobcat arrived earlier this month after lingering around someone’s home for a while. Too small to be alone at this time of year and no mom in sight,... they were able to contain it and bring it in for an examination. Upon arrival it was clear that this bobcat had gone for quite a while without eating and was very emaciated. A refeeding protocol was put into place to prevent her malnourished body from going into shock. Now a couple weeks later she is filling out nicely and growing up quickly! She still has baby teeth so this little one was a late baby from the summer. She will remain at the facility until the spring when food sources are plentiful again.

‘Tis the seasonfor cautious driving! As the snow begins to pile up, Ontario’s wildlife will be looking for the path of least resistance. This often means they find their way to our roadways. Use caution when driving this winterbe aware and ready to react to wildlife.
