Mission Fire Rescue Service 18.11.2020

If you haven’t noticed yet, it’s a touch blustery outside. And you might not find any loose objects in the same place later today if they aren’t secured. The Environment Canada warning states winds are expected to gust upwards of 90 km/h throughout the morning and into the afternoon. ... If you see power lines brought down by tree branches, please call 911 and ask for the fire department, and stay at least 10 metres (33 feet) back from any downed lines. Treat all wires as potentially live and keep back. https://weather.gc.ca/warnings/report_e.html?bc40

A great weekend learning about automobile water rescue as well as brushing up on our swift water skills. Big thank you to Adam at Rescue Canada for all his knowledge and to our friends at Mission Search and Rescue for all their help and expertise.

Without the fear of being called creepy, here is the progress of my Movember Moustache! I shaved my face as clean as it gets these days on November 1st with a g...oal to see how much of a stache I can grow by next Saturday, November 28th when we host our Zoom Music Bingo Fundraiser in support of MOVEMBER presented the Mission Firefighters' Charitable Society. For those who aren't aware, Movember is an international campaign to raise money and awareness for men's health - in particular for testicular and prostrate cancers, as well men's mental health and suicide prevention. I have signed up as a part of The Moustache Mission Team to raise money for Movember with folks from Mission Fire Rescue Service. I'm raising funds and awareness this Movember in memory of my grandfather. Bill Cassel Sr. was a stubborn ole guy who gave cancer a good fight but we lost him 7 years ago. I need your help to keep Grandpa Cassel's memory alive and to raise money in support all of the Grandpas, Dads, Uncles, Nephews, Brothers, Sons and Grandsons. Please donate to support men's health. If you can, please donate at https://ca.movember.com/mospace/14392889 and join us next Saturday night for an evening of great music, fabulous prizes and a whole lots of moustache's in the zoom room for music bingo!

Mission Fire Rescue Service honours our veterans, and our active-duty Canadian Forces today. Please take a moment today to think of all that these brave people sacrificed to ensure our quality of life and freedoms. Never forget.

EDIT: Dates are important. Now included. Mission Fire Rescue Service (MFRS) will be conducting a two-day, live fire exercise in the Stave Falls area Nov. 21 and 22. The department has been fortunate enough to be granted permission to burn two vacant buildings in the 30700-block of Dewdney Trunk Rd. The training will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days. ... There will be multiple fire apparatus in the area during those times, but it will not impact emergency response throughout the community. This training provides the members of the department with the opportunity to practise tactics and skills that are needed when attending structure fires, said Assistant Chief Nick Rychkun. Please do not be alarmed if you see smoke in that general area as it is part of the training exercises. This training is closed to the general public and MFRS is asking the public refrains from attending to watch, he added. All COVID practices will be enforced and protocols will be in place throughout the exercises.
