A beautiful Niagara 35 'Encore' was surveyed and sea-trialed yesterday in Arachat, NS for one of my clients. It was a long drive but I wanted to make sure that all went well. John Hines of Sea Sharp Marine Services did his usual thorough inspection job. She'll be short-hauled tomorrow for him to look at the bottom. The seller is very experienced and his preparations for the survey made the whole process a pleasure.

Our '93 Bayliner 4387 has just been reduced to $79,900. The Westerbeke 63B-4 diesel engine, which I had installed new in '92 in my ketch, just surpassed 6,000 operating hours. I maintain it well and it works perfectly. Annual oil analysis confirms its' status. Diesel engines in recreational vessels seldom wear out. Lack of use is usually the enemy. I am bemused by clients who are off-put with engines that have a few thousand hours on them. There are other factors that matter so much more.

Our Chaparral 327 SSX listing was shipped this morning to her new owner in Michigan. With travel restriction in place, she was purchased sight-unseen; but well surveyed and photographed.

I just listed a late model 'J 35' located out of province. The 'Maritime Bubble' allowed a day trip to inspect her yesterday. She is a well maintained and up-dated boat that is likely to survey well due to long term indoor winter storage. She has a yard trailer and recent sails. Details will be up on the sites soon.

My wooden ketch once had a leak forward that I feared was associated with a keel bolt. The traditional diagnostic procedure of 'drawing' the bolt seemed drastic (read: removing it for inspection). I had heard of non-destructive testing so I had all the keel bolts X-rayed. It is not an inexpensive process, but it sure beats the unnecessary dismantling of ones' yacht. As it turned-out, the bolt was perfect and the leak was easily cured. It was interesting to witness the procedure once again today as a part of a thorough survey.

In Glooscap II, I lead the new owner and crew of a C&C 38 Mk. II, that we sold last fall, though the Reversing Falls this morning. He had bought her sight-unseen from Alberta where he works. He made it back home to PEI and with the 'Maritime Bubble' he is finally able to take possession of her and commence the delivery to Charlottetown. She is a lovely boat and he seems very pleased.

Our Chaparral 327 SSX listing is under contract within a week of listing. I spent an hour aboard with the US Buyers on WhatsApp yesterday. The boat will be carefully surveyed and shipped sight-unseen (except virtually): Amazing; but it places special responsibilities on the broker and surveyor. Yesterday I sanded Glooscap's rail-caps and this morning I varnished them. I do them last. They get the most wear and UV exposure. We are experiencing a bit of a run on Bayliner 32s. After selling a local one last week, we have an accepted offer on another in MA and interest in a third in VT. These are perfect Saint John River boats with a coastal cruising capability. They provide good value and have a clever interior design with two double cabins. Being a Wm. Garden design, they are hansom to boot. Prices vary depending on condition, engines and age.

My ketch, GLOOSCAP II, was first launched 50 years ago tomorrow. Her appearance sure has changed over the years. She looked pretty plain back then, but that belies the excellence of materials and workmanship that her builder employed in her construction. I believe that she is as sound today as she was a half century ago.

I have an accepted offer on our Beneteau 285 listing. It is a sign of the times that the boat will be surveyed and shipped to Ontario without a Buyer inspection. I have photographed every scrape and scratch so I believe that the Buyer knows what he is getting. A survey will help assure that.

I started MSY 41 years ago this week. It does not seem possible.
