Every day is a new opportunity to move forward with your healing. Be kind to yourself on your journey. Illustration by @creativewannabe_ [Image description: A quote reads, Today is a good day to start again. Around the text are illustrations of bees and flowers.]
Grateful. Appreciative. Indebted. Words do not do justice to how much we value nurses for everything they do for us. They are the unseen heroes who continue to work on the frontlines amid harrowing conditionsand still they show up.... They continue to work the long hours despite the uncertainty of what is to come. They sacrifice time with their families so others can safely return to their families too. Thank you. Thank you a thousand times over. While Mental Health Week is coming to an end, our work to support victims and survivors continues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Mental health matters 365 days a year and we will always be here to support, to connect, and to empower our community. Illustration: @apeaceofwerk ... How many of us have been quietly struggling with our mental health over the last year? Even with initiatives like #MentalHealthWeek and #BellLetsTalk, more and more of us are grappling with the uncertainty, the isolation, the overwhelm of our shared situation. Let’s #GetReal about our emotions. Sharing our very normal feelings of sadness, fear, and worry is hugely important during this unusual time of stress and loss. And if these emotions feel overwhelming and interfere with... your daily life, it is important to reach out to mental health supports. Our team at Muskoka Victim Services can guide you to the resources best suited to your situation. Reach out to us at 1-844-762-9945 or [email protected]. [Image description: Text reads, 1 in 5 Canadians experiences mental illness or a mental health issue in any given year, but 5 in 5 of us that’s all of us has mental health. It's Women's History Month! Since 1992, the Government of Canada designated October as a time to recognize the contributions of women and girls throughout Canada's history. This year's theme is #BecauseOfYou and celebrates the invaluable achievements of women and girls in Canada. ... We'd love to know how you're celebrating Women's History Month!
Today is Orange Shirt Day, a time when we reflect on the dark history of Indian Residential Schools and how they have affected Indigenous communities for generations. On Phyllis Webstad's first day of residential school, her new orange shirt was taken away. In 2013, Phyllis created Orange Shirt Day to raise awareness about the harm caused by these mandatory schools. Thousands of Indigenous children and youth were sent to the schools and many never returned home. Orange Shirt ...Day is a time to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for the generations of children to come. Every child matters. We believe in the power of community. That's why we are honoured to work with an incredible group of community partners to provide crisis response. The Ontario Provincial Police - Central Region is one of our key partners who connect victims with emotional and practical assistance. We work together with the Bracebridge and Huntsville detachments to ensure victims receive the empathy and respect they need during such a difficult time. Thank you for your support and compassion for our community!
Check on a friend or loved one. Not just today, but regularly. It’s worth it. #mentalhealth #WorldSuicidePreventionDay

Police in Ontario are warning the public about nearly a dozen common scams being run amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ontario Provincial Police said in a news re...lease that fraudsters are "taking advantage of citizens' fear" for their own profit, and that they're doing it in a variety of ways. Here are just a few of the widespread scams that the OPP and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) are warning about Wednesday: https://www.cbc.ca//opp-covid19-related-scam-update-1.5532 See more

This is a challenging time and staying home is unfortunately not always the safest option in certain households. It is imperative that we all pull together duri...ng this difficult time of social distancing and self-isolation. With limited options for victims to come forward, especially victims of domestic violence, we are also relying on neighbours, friends and family to help keep an eye out and ensure resources are being shared. ONVSP members are still available for support. If you or someone you knows need help, we ask that you please contact your local ONVSP member by telephone or email.
