As we announced, MUTEK Montréal Édition 22 is coming this August, after an extraordinary year for all of us. While we remain in anticipation, last year’s performances are here to tide us over. laced's live set last year squeezed emotion out of her trustworthy Yamaha RM1X, crafting hypnotic liquid basslines backed by harsh polyrhythmic grooves. Not afraid to push the BPM into some truly freakout worthy digits, laced delved into the darkest corners of the lower end of bass music sounds. Now available on our SoundCloud and YouTube. Each year, during the Prix NUMIX Gala, the Board of Directors of Xn Québec rewards a personality from the media industry and digital creativity for their contribution to the sector and its development. This year, they have chosen to present this Tribute Award to Alain Mongeau, General and Artistic Director, Founder of MUTEK, to reward his entire career devoted to the development of the digital creativity industry in Quebec, as well as to raising its international influence. Thanks to Pascale Daigle, France Jobin, Jimmy Lakatos, Isabelle Painchaud, Hugues Sweeney and the others for their kind words, to the Société des arts technologiques [SAT], UQAM | Université du Québec à Montréal, the Les 7 doigts de la main and to Akufen Horror Inc. for the music.

MUTEK Forum has always aimed to curate a space where creators, industry professionals, and organizations can cultivate rewarding connections. In 2020, more than 750 artists and 400 organizations attended Forum events. This year, we invite you to Edition 7 of the Forum, which will take place virtually from August 24 to September 2. Last year, Boogieman & Samito crafted a set of uplifting bass-oriented house mixed with Kuduro sonorities and lush Portuguese vocals. Having presented their projects in the 2020 call for submissions, Automatisme, softcoresoft, Boogieman & Samito, laced, and Chris Salter & Alexandre Saunier premiered their captivating performances in MUTEK Edition 21. We are inviting artists from or living in Canada to submit their creative projects for MUTEK’s 22nd Festival Edition, which will once again take place in a hybrid form in Montréal from August 24 to 29, 2021. World Premiere at MUTEK.JP+MX Born in Osaka in 1993, Yuri Urano is known for her industrial techno sound and fascinating vocals, which drew a lot of attention in the Japanese Techno scene. She also has a solo project under the artist name Yullippe. In January 2018, she participated in "INTERLUDE from TDME" one of the biggest auditions searching for the next generation of creators for electronic music, and she won the GRAND PRIX. In April, she performed with Ryoji Ikeda and ...RADIQ in Osaka. In September, she released a single from CPU Records, and then released Reed from her eponymous label YL. She shows her talent in various musical fields and has both produced and performed at TEDxKobe and "The Star Festival." Manami Sakamoto is a proliferating visual artist and VJ. As a MUTEK.JP regular, her work is highly regarded for its borderless view of the world unbounded by genre or framework, and for the highly designed images unique to VJ. Such creative output has led to performances at local festivals such as Fuji Rock or Summersonic, as well as international appearances at Awakenings and Zouk Out.

Artist Desert Bloom presented her latest World Premiere performance at MUTEK Edition 21 last September. She submitted her project to the 2020 call for submissions. The 35th Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal ceremony was held virtually today. MUTEK is deeply honoured to have been awarded the Grand Prize, along with a $30,000 grant, for its 20th edition that took place from August 19 to 25th 2019 in Montreal. The MUTEK team would like to congratulate all of this year's finalists and would like to recognize the Conseil des arts de Montréal's commitment to the diversity of voices that make up its community.
