Researchers at NIH's National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) have found that Androgens play a critical role in regulating stomach inflammation. The study, published in Gastroenterology, suggests that physicians could consider treating male patients with stomach inflammation differently than female patients with the same condition. MEET OUR SPEAKER: Melyssa Aronson. She is a senior genetic counsellor at the Zane Cohen Centre for Digestive Disease at Sinai Health System and has been with that Centre since 1998. She is also an assistant professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. Melyssa works with families that have hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndrome and oversees a research registry, collecting information on thousands of patients to better understand the caus...es, treatment and prevention of hereditary cancer. She has a special interest in hereditary stomach cancer and has published several articles on hereditary gastric cancer in Ontario, hereditary diffuse gastric cancer syndrome, and the impact of gastrectomy in individuals with this condition. Melyssa will be discussing the topic, All Cancer is Genetic But Not All Cancer is Hereditary. Do My Genes Put Me at Risk For Cancer?
