Along with the meals Jamie have collected $200 from the sale of her bake good and wanted to give hand sanitizers, tooth brush and tooth paste. Dear, Facebook World, First, thank you to my dear friend Vanh Bah Kalong My Thai Restaurants for the masks, gloves and dinner she delivered to me today. Im tru...ly blessed. Those who know me know that I survived with a disease call Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) which indicates that I am immunocompromised. Im a cook for an LTC home here in Hamilton, a mom two young kids, since COVID-19 has cause school closures, and job interruptions, I find myself wearing various hats at work. Cooking, Dietary, receiving, to mention a few. This doesnt only apply to me, administrators, and executive staff are also rolling up their sleeves and diving in to help where they can. Speaking for my place of employment, we are very very short staff, as more and more LTC become compromised with the COVID-19 virus. I didnt take an oath to save lives, but, as a cook doesnt mean I care less. Being immunocompromised, and understanding the risk I am taking as I join my fronline workers everyday to do my small part. So does mom is in her senior years as PSW, who still works, also in an LTC home. Who hasnt seen her 6 grandkids in person over a month and I havent seen my nieces and nephews in about the same duration. She and I both made the personal choice, to put the health, and care of the aged before our own family. So did several of my family members, my brother who is in the Canadian military, the kids dad, all my friends on the frontline. I understand the Government is doing its party in getting us the frontline works the PPE we need, and its going to take a few days to get us. So, thank you Canada. To everyone reading this you can also assist us at the frontline. If you can make masks do so and donate it. If, you can volunteers for an hour or two do so. ( this doesnt mean you need to leave your house to do so) If you can make a meal for a frontline worker or an elderly neighbour please do so, thank you to my family/friend for the meals. Many of our Nurses, PSWs, Recreation staff, Cooks, Dietary Aids in our LTC homes are working tirelessly, neglecting self-care, mental health, partners, children, loved ones, family members living in an LTC home they cannot see, touch, or visit. I have seen the sorrow in the eyes of my co-workers as anxiety fills their hearts. We cry together, we laugh together, we are each others keepers, and more so now, we got each others backs. I leave my kids behind, to be a face of comfort, and joy, for someones mom, dad, or loved ones, as they can not see their loved one at this time. Its a choice I made with my underline health conditions against wearing and advice. To stay home with my kids would have been an easy choice. But every one of my family members knows I never take the easy way out. Keep in mind we are all in this concurrently, and together we will make it. #StayStrongCanada. #LTC #Covid-19

We just want to take this time and recognize our own Front Line heroes whom choose to work for minimum wage and provide that essential service. We all made choices and we are proud that some of these young staff made a choice to come to work. They could have ask me to lay them off but hang in there with us!
