Crests with character. I still have my original crest from when I was a kid. Some uniforms last longer than others, but when I upgrade I always remove and keep the crest. It is good practice to sew any rips or tears in your gi to get more life out of it, plus it is a uniform and should look sharp. If you’re like me you become very fond of your uniforms and cherish them like armour, fixing them because you don’t want to let them go just yet. Unfortunately, especially with thin...ner uniforms, the fabric becomes weaker overtime, the blood and sweat stains have turned it yellow, and if you grappled someone it would rip in their grip immediately. Owning many, many gis most of them have newer crests - but I always reserve those one or two gi that bear a crest that tells a story and represents growth and time.
