Nuclear made up 35% of capacity but generated 61% of total electricity. - Natural gas generation is a flexible resource during high demand days. As temperatures rise in the summer or drop in the winter, gas helps to provide the electricity we need to maintain reliability. Gas accounted for 6% of total output for the year. - Highest electricity demand was on September 5, 2018 at 23,240 MW during a prolonged period of unseasonably high temperatures. Ontario’s total electricity demand in 2018 grew 4% from the previous year to 137.4 TWh. - As part of a large, interconnected electricity system, we trade with our neighbours for reliability and market efficiency. Ontario remains a net exporter with 18,591 GW exports and 8,438 GW imports in 2018. - Energy efficiency programs delivered by local utilities & the IESO continue to make significant progress to help meet ON's energy needs cost effectively. More than 6.1TWh of energy has been saved since 2015. This equals to almost double the yearly total energy use for London, ON.
