How can the virus impact people with asthma or COPD? People with asthma or COPD can protect themselves by taking their usual medications, as prescribed. This wi...ll ensure that if you do get the virus, your lungs are functioning as well as they can be. If on an inhaled steroid or another type of puffer, make sure you take it regularly as prescribed. At this stage, we don’t know much about what happens to patients with asthma and COPD when they get coronavirus. There haven’t been many studies published yet, but it is likely that getting the infection with coronavirus may worsen your underlying asthma or COPD and may worsen your air flow obstruction. Those who also contract pneumonia risk even more serious health outcomes. We strongly urge everyone to follow the proper guidelines on handwashing, social distancing and isolation and avoiding those who are sick. https://www.lung.ca//lung-disease/covid-19-coronavirus/faqs

Public Health officials around the country are of the opinion that youth vaping is an urgent threat to public health. It is alarming that here in NL, 29.9% of our students in grades 7-12 have used e-cigarettes in the past 30 days. This is much higher than the Canadian rate of 20.2%. The NL Alliance for the Control of Tobacco has a launched an awareness and education campaign on the topic of preventing vaping use among youth. The campaign is designed to promote key messages around the risks of using vaping products, how youth are targeted by the tobacco industry, and tips/tools for talking to your kids about this issue. Are you using vape products/e-cigarettes as an aid to help you quit smoking tobacco? There is some new information out today -- Health Canada is advising Canadi...ans who use vaping products to monitor themselves for symptoms of pulmonary illness (e.g., cough, shortness of breath, chest pain) and to seek medical attention promptly if they have concerns about their health. Here’s what you need to know: If you are concerned about the health risks related to vaping, consider not using vaping products. If you use vaping products, or have used vaping products in the past, monitor for symptoms of pulmonary illness (e.g., cough, shortness of breath, chest pain) and promptly seek medical attention if you have concerns about your health. Be sure to indicate to your health care professional that you currently vape, or have in the past, and what you were vaping. If you use vaping products, avoid any products from illegal or unregulated sources. Products obtained from the illegal market are not subject to any controls or oversight with respect to safety or quality. Do not modify vaping products or add any substances to these products that are not intended by the manufacturer. Report any adverse reactions or complaints related to vaping products to Health Canada. For full release: www.smokershelp.net/vapingproductswarning And, if you're looking for help with quitting smoking regular cigarettes, there are a variety of nicotine replacement products available that research consistently shows to be safe and effective (nicotine patch, gum, inhaler, lozenge and mouth spray), as well as two prescription medications. Speak to your healthcare provider for more information.

It can enter your home through cracks and gaps in the floors, walls, windows and doors. There are two ways you can test your home for radon. You can purchase a do-it-yourself test kit, or hire a radon measurement professional to help determine radon levels in your home. Learn more: http://ow.ly/7hIR50uEdQs
