We have a wonderful new connection with a supplier for our Brazil nuts. It’s a couple of guys who work directly with farmers and cooperatives in Peru. We will be getting our cacao nibs, really delicious golden berries, and these Brazil nuts from them. When your child starts getting more comfortable in the kitchen it’s fantastic for all. This human decided that our peaches would taste much better on our pancakes if they got browned a bit with some cinnamon and butter. They were delicious. Made almond crackers using our GF pizza crust recipe. And our almond flour. Added sesame seeds. Rolled out thin. Score them with a knife before baking. I also used a fork to set holes in them and sprinkled with flaked salt. Cooked in the oven at 350 F for ten minutes and then flipped them over and cooked another ten minutes. Little gluten free bruschettas. Delicious. Love @flourist wheat berries that I sprouted to make this salad with garden peas, frozen corn (because sometimes you have to make do,) carrots and tomatoes along with our sprouted sunflower seeds for a different crunch. We drove out to Westham Island today. It’s an annual trip that we’ve been doing for the last 10 years. We picked strawberries and bought a few flats and we came home with over 45 pounds worth. And then my kid and I hulled strawberries and made jam, and put some in bags and froze them. These are the rituals that I enjoy. The things that you do every year. Putting food by. Did you know...A nut, by definition, is a hard-shelled fruit with a single seed. But Brazil nuts don’t fit that at all; they’re actually considered seeds since they come in large pods about the size of a baseball in groups of 10 to 24. In fact, they’re more closely related to blueberries and persimmons than they are to walnuts or pecans. The pods are extremely tough so much so, there are only two animals that can open them: us, though we need the help of an ax or machete; and a small rodent called an agouti, who gnaw the pods with their chisel-like teeth. The pods weigh up to 2.5 kilos!

Breakfast today: Raspberries blended with homemade coconut milk along with some of our sprouted walnuts and a couple dates. I also added a big tablespoon of almond butter which came to us courtesy of @schoccolatta -they sprout our nuts and make their own butters using a stone grinder and they are the most creamy and delicious nut butters that they then use to make their incredible chocolates. We still have frozen raspberries, cherries, blueberries,peaches and and and, - I was busy last summer pitting and hulling. We are almost through it and getting ready for this years bounty. A cup of tea and a cookie? Yes please. These are the tahini, chocolate chip ones on our recipe page. But I finally got a great combo of almond flour with a bit of tapioca for the perfect gluten free chewy cookie. If trying it use 140 gms almond flour and 40 gms tapioca instead of the other flour combo. When making something new do you find your thought bubble is sometimes a bit oh this is a disaster? And then by the time you’re done you like it? Fortunately that happened with this recipe from Anna Jones in The Guardian. It’s a chickpea flour, carrot crepe. I used home made hemp milk. Which I don’t usually like but in a savoury dish it works. I seasoned these a lot more than her recipe called for. And I also don’t find they work much as a crêpe but with stuff thrown on the...m and a little dressing drizzled over it it’s delicious. The kid likes them as well. Who else is facing bucketfuls of arugula in their gardens now? I’ll post the recipe on our site with my changes in a few days. Finally made a version of cream that I kind of like. It is from Against all grains website. It’s not perfect because straining cashew pulp is not easy! It blends so smoothly, but not smooth enough for that perfect mouth feel. It’s combined with homemade coconut milk. I sweetened with maple syrup, not dates. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a seven.
