Elegant and energy efficient. This bathroom was part of a Net Zero Ready home that we recently built. Net Zero homes produce as much energy as they consume and are 80% more efficient than current homes built to code. To help reduce energy consumption in this bathroom, we installed low flow fixtures, LED lights in the mirrors and an ERV (energy recovery ventilator). Because less energy is required to lower the temperature of dry air compared to moist air, an ERV can reduce t...he work your air conditioner needs to do and save you money. It also brings in fresh air flow and help with humidity levels, improving overall health and air quality. Another great feature of this bathroom is the shower which has a large clear glass window. This allows for direct sunlight from the window to access the shower, while the patterned glass on the bathroom/vanity side still provides a level of privacy for the user. We’re certain that these clients will be enjoying many sunny mornings in this ensuite oasis.

If you’ve ever walked into someone’s kitchen and noticed a large, deep sink, it’s likely a farmhouse style sink. We love farmhouse sinks as they bring a chic distinguished look to any kitchen. For the home chef, a farmhouse style kitchen sink is a part of their dream kitchen. Most farmhouse sinks are wide and deep, making both cooking and cleaning easier tasks. Modern Luxury. These clients were no stranger to traveling for work and often stayed in high end hotels while doing so. They wanted their bathroom to feel like a luxury suite with high end finishes and a more modern style. Nothing ornamental or fussy. Being a young family with three kids, the clients were looking for high quality products and finishes that would last. A unique feature that we incorporated into this design was adding the cutouts in the interior wall so the sh...ower can get natural light from the windows. One thing you may not have noticed is that the center mirror at the vanity is actually a hidden medicine cabinet (can you tell we love to incorporate beautiful design and functionality?) The massive shower space features multiple showerheads and stands at an impressive 6 ft long with plenty of extra space. This bathroom was part of a large renovation that was recently featured on our social media and is also a finalist for the Ontario Home Builders' Association Awards of Distinction in the categories Home Renovation and Bathroom Renovation. We can't wait to see the results!

A kitchen island isn’t only a functional cooking countertop, it’s a part of décor, a storage space, a seating area and it can fulfill almost any other function that you want. Utilizing an island for kitchen appliances is often just a case of good space planning. Designers are increasingly installing microwave ovens, dishwashers and other appliances in the kitchen island. The island turns out to be a logical and convenient location for many appliances. The easily accessible microwave oven under the counter is just one example of good universal design at work. Our clients were living in a 140 year old home that was in need of a complete back-to-the-studs job to gut and insulate the home properly. They had previously done some work themselves, but after getting tired of a renovation that was a decade in the works, they turned to OakWood to get the job done right. Our clients were looking for a style and colour scheme that was tasteful but that also wouldn’t become dated with time. The design process was incredibly helpful in term...s of helping clarify and solidify our ideas. Sunlight and home orientation are a big factor when considering how to build an energy efficient Net Zero home. Exposure to the sun has a lot of implications for heating and cooling. This was the case with our clients' home which was southeast facing with a bank of large triple pane windows. That provided very bright, insulated spaces that got a lot of sunlight, reducing the need for heating in the winter time. For the hot summer days, the blinds help to reduce the amount of heat generated by sunlight, while the triple pane windows help to insulate the cool air, reducing the need for A/C cooling and leading to year round energy conservation. #NetZero #EnergyEfficiency #EnvironmentallyFriendly #EcoFriendly
