Okanagan Fisheries Foundation 07.11.2020

Removal of the Enloe Dam has been talked about since the 80’s. Maybe it’s time has finally come and we may get a steelhead fishery and salmon returns in the Similkameen River.

sc'win (sockeye salmon) have returned back to #Syilx territory in exceptional numbers this year. These returns, alongside conservation efforts like #broodstock,... are part of our ongoing commitment to care for Syilx lands and resources, including responsibility to our sacred waters and the food sovereignty that they provide. Keep posted as we continue to report on these activities! "Our relatives the salmon remember their agreement from the time of creation. I am grateful for all those who have had a good thought and for all those who have dedicated their lives to making this possible. Together we all have a responsibility to make sure salmon continues to be a part of who we are as the original people of this land." Chief Chad Eneas

One fish. Two fish. And... So many dead fish, as noted by one preschooler. A reminder: If you’re going to check out the beautiful return of the kokanee..., don’t be responsible for any more deaths than are natural. Make sure to keep pets, kids (and adults!), out of creeks to protect the eggs that lay in the gravel beds. One step into the water can crush and kill thousands of salmon eggs. See more
