The centre will be offering a volunteer training for client-care from around mid-November. It will be one evening per week for a couple of months (excluding Christmas break), with a possibility of meeting in person or by zoom. Client-care can look different from one time to the next, but generally speaking we offer vulnerable pregnant women regular 1 hour sessions where they can talk to one of our peer-support volunteers about what they are going through. We equip our volunt...eers to offer accurate information, practical guidance, a listening ear, and depending on the situation, material support. Please send us a quick message if you are interested to participate, even if you cannot yet commit to coming in weekly, so that we keep you informed about the exact dates and times. * We are hoping to offer a French training from Spring/summer 2021, that way I will keep you informed about the exact dates and times.

Since putting up our last round of publicity we have experienced a sharp increase in demand for our services! We can all together praise God that we are functioning at maximum capacity! That means that our resources are being actively used to meet the real needs of people in the community, in exactly the way set out by our mission statement! However that also means that our need for trained and committed client-support volunteers is becoming more pressing.... If you have any interest, and availability to come to the office at least a couple of times a month, for 3-4 hours, to provide a listening ear and practical advice to clients in need of support, Now is the time to manifest! Each one of our client-services volunteers will receive at least a 21 hour training and practice, so don't worry if you feel called but unprepared! There are already a few people lined up to do the training, and as soon as I get a couple more, we will try to find a schedule that suits as many of you as possible. Men are also encouraged to come to the training; although most of our clients are women, each pregnancy intimately involves and affects at least one man; it would be great if we could advertise and provide appropriate support for these also. Every pregnancy comes with its share of challenges, choices and emotions. We exist to equip and offer emotional support to pregnant women and their loved ones, no matter their situation. We do not offer medical follow-ups, but we can accompany our clients in taking the steps to finding and applying for the medical resources they need. All our services are free and our peer-support volunteers are fully bilingual.

This fall we will be launching 'Healing Sessions', a support group for women who have experienced an abortion, no matter how long ago the abortion happened. We remain committed to serving our local community throughout this time. Quebec has today ordered that all non essential services be halted. We want to remind our community (both those whom we serve, and those who support our work) that Options Pregnancy Centre is an essential service. We have adjusted the manner in which we operate in order to go above and beyond, working in solidarity with those in our community and beyond to flatten the curve of Covid-19. The support we ...offer will now by and large take place over the phone, or via Facebook messenger, text and email. (Please note that emails will be checked once per day, while all other methods of communication will get those requesting our help a quicker response.) We can no longer offer free pregnancy tests for the time being. However, we have experience in providing phone support for those unsure if they are taking an at home pregnancy test correctly. We will continue to meet material needs as before, but will not offer in-office pickup as in the past. We are unable to accept material donations of any kind at this time. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women takes place annually in Canada on December 6th. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the École Polytechnique tradgedy, and we remember its victims, especially those whose young lives were snuffed out simply for being women.
