PSWs at The Mission, otherwise known as our client care workers, provide compassionate care and support to those staying in our hospice. CTV News Ottawa's Joel Haslam shares the story of how The Mission's Food Services Training Program expansion came to find a home at the historic former Rideau Bakery.

Yesterday we held our last graduation ceremony for our Food Services Training Program at our shelter before moving this program to its new location at the former Rideau Bakery site in 2021. Since 2004, 179 FSTP students have graduated, and 90% are employed by the time they graduate. Even with the challenges imposed by Covid-19, we continue to place students into positions, which is great news. The next FSTP training session will start January 11. Interested? As we head into the holiday session, planning is underway for our annual Christmas Dinner, which will take place on Sunday, December 20th. Because of Covid19, food insecurity in our community has grown much worse. It will take between 3000-3500 pounds of turkey to feed everyone who comes to our special Christmas dinner. Frozen turkey donations can be dropped off between 7 a.m. 5 p.m. at the garage entrance to The Ottawa Mission at the corner of Waller and Besserer. Please... ring the bell and a staff person will arrive to receive your donation. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.

This week is National Nurse Practitioner Week. We want to take this opportunity to celebrate our wonderful Nurse Practitioners from Ottawa Inner City Health who partner with us in our DYMON health clinic to keep community members who are homeless and at risk of homelessness as healthy as possible. NPs are fantastic service providers, particularly with vulnerable populations in community settings. Thank you so much for all that you do!

The Rideau Bakery provided delicious food as well as a sense of community and family to our community for almost 90 years.
