Ummmm miss Mia, I think that was margot’s bed......
A good read. Glad he found his happy ending. Also side note: got a puppy?? Get a trainer to help you. We have a few we recommend if you need one. We also have groomers to help you navigate the proper care for your dog’s coat. Want that doodle hair longer?? Get them to teach you how to brush it.

Ok Tanga, your goal for today is NOT TO ROLL IN POOP. Seriously , 2 days this week she has gotten covered, by her own doing, in feces.

You know whats awesome? Puppies! Puppies are awesome. They are adorable and squishy and wiggly and sweet and all the nice bits. Mostly. Sometimes. But not alw...ays. Genetics. The first 8 weeks. These two things are so important. Lets talk about genetics quick. There are hundreds of dog breeds. Add in the mixed breeds and your options for the kind of dog you get is limitless! But each breed is genetically predisposed to act a certain way. Herding Breeds Herd! This includes but is not limited to border collies, heelers, Aussies and corgis. Do you know how herding dogs herd? Either by staring, barking or biting. No livestock? No problem! Children, People, Dogs, etc will do! Guardian Breeds Guard! This includes Great Pyrenees, Akbash, Maremmas and the more common Rottweilers, Mastiff breeds and more. How do guard dogs guard? Well with barking, threats, and if needed- teeth. It is perfectly reasonable to anticipate and expect that your cute fluffy Pyrenees puppy is going to bark at all the neighbors and be not so friendly to strangers... Sporting Breeds Sport. lol. Okay, they run, and hunt and retrieve and have great prey drives! This transfers to all sorts of fun things. Chasing cats instead of finding birds. Or the incessant need to have something in your mouth- a sock will do if you cant find a duck! Did you know that a poodle is originally bred as a sporting breed?! This explains their energy, good nature and athleticism that allows them to leap into the air in a single bound. Lol These are just examples. Examples of where your dogs instinct dictates some of their behavior. This doesnt mean all Border Collies are going to bite and chase children. This doesnt mean that all Pointers are going to chase cats and have no recalls. It just means that there is a strong likelihood! Saying that you dont want your guardian breed to guard is unrealistic. This is why its so important to know what you are getting. To be sure the breed you want is the breed that suits your lifestyle. Certainly training can change behavior. But it cant eliminate instinct! Choose your breed or mix wisely. Do some research. Ask questions. Then go dog shopping- (which is a whole different post!). Ill continue on tomorrow about that!
Along with the beautiful weather comes dogs in the back of trucks. Ive seen many the past few days, it is illegal, if you are able to call it in. *****No shade... in the back of a truck. ****if it is too hot outside for you to stand outside in the sun beating down on you ,youre going to get a burn youre going to feel heat its going to be too hot ,can you put your hand on the pavement and hold it there or does your hand get hot and burn. If you arent considerate of your dogs safety in the back of your truck please be considerate of the fact that the sun is beating down on them the whole time , you are inside with your window down in the shade ,your dog is in the sun. Panting over heating, Im sure theyd rather be at home in the shade. See more
Keep your pups safe in this heat. Walks are better done first thing in the morning, before the heat sets in.
To our most awesome customers. I know we just opened up for Saturday's, but I have had some staffing issues and no longer have enough trained staff to stay open 6 days a week. So for the month of August, I will have to go back to just Monday-Friday operations and close Saturday's until I have enough staff again. So sorry about all the back and forth. Am hoping to resume all regular hours after September long weekend, just in time for school to start . **I have staff hired, they are just not trained yet** Kirsten
As much as I hate writing this, I have to let you know. Our air conditioners are both broken. The result is it is warm inside. I looked at the forcast for next week and it looks like it is going to be super hot. We do our best with fans and ice cubes in water dishes, we even mist the pups down. The cement floors remain nice and cool to lay on. Typically you bring your furballs in to us because we are cooler in than out. Next week might not be the case. I just wanted to let you know. The new units will be up and running next Friday. I just wanted to let you know, so if you still want to come in, we are doing our very best. Kirsten and the staff
