Our 26th employee to have worked with Penney Paving for 25 years is Frank Foley of beautiful Fogo Island. Frank has been an important member of our pipe crew for all that time and over the years he has done what all our employees do - perform his job to a very high standard all the while having fun with the rest of the crew. If Fred Jr happened to show up on the site during a lunch break, Frank would open his lunch box and say "Hungry Skipper? I have lots. What do you want?"... If there was a cookie or a chocolate bar, Fred Jr was happy to lighten Frank's lunch box. We wish to recognize Frank's wife Juanita who spent the summers with Frank in their trailer. They spent many construction seasons together on the road with Penney Paving. Frank chose to have a rubber tire backhoe on his award given backhoes were almost always a part of the equipment he worked with daily. The stone used is local black granite. On behalf of Penney Paving, thank you so very much Frank for being an integral part of who we are for the past 25 years.

SOLD For our friends that are looking for a great backhoe for snow clearing at their business or cabin, we are selling a 2001 Cat 420DIT backhoe complete with a 10' snow blade for $33,900. This unit has only 7,802hrs and most of them were in Goose Bay so this machine has very little rust compared to any other backhoe of the same age that has been used during the winters in Newfoundland. The backhoe is available for viewing at our yard on Duggan Street, Grand Falls-Windsor.

Thinking about snow today? Neither were we until one of our commercial snow clearing clients called. We are looking for a very dependable person or a team of two who are interested in being responsible for clearing the snow from several doors and a sidewalk at a building in Grand Falls-Windsor this winter. The client needs access to their building seven days a week so we need a person or two who can commit to being available all winter. We were not aware of the glue and type of bracing we should have used prior to the filling. During the filling, the corner popped off and Chad jumped into action using the impact driver and boards to keep the cement in. (We were not fast enough lol). Chad saved the day! In our discussion with Chad, he offered a lot of knowledge in using Ice Block. Chad didn’t mind sharing the knowledge and certainly didn’t mind helping. He is also very well-mannered and polite. Chad you are awesome, and we thank you!" Thanks to Chad for being so helpful and thanks to Gary and Geraldine Peyton for taking the time to recognize Chad’s efforts.

A heartfelt message from the children of Fred Penney Sr. - Annette, Fred, Carla, Cheryl and Cynthia... The sudden passing of our father has left us with much sadness, pain and emptiness. We feel very fortunate to have had a father that was kind, generous, and humble as well as being a highly intellectual leader. He passed his strongest traits and values along to us throughout our lives from our earliest childhood beginnings up to the very end of his life. Our father instill...ed in us the values that made him not only a wonderful human being, but also a supportive father, husband, brother, friend and importantly as well, a respected and admired employer. As you may already know, our father was a private and humble person who never sought out or enjoyed public attention. For this reason, you may not be aware of the significant impact he made on our lives and how he contributed to the individuals we are today in business and in our personal lives. His wit and humour were unmatched by anyone we have known in our lifetime. Dad could be described as "tough-minded and tender-hearted." Although Dad was extremely tough, he had a softness passed on to him by his mother that permeated his life in the way he treated people. Our father's generosity knew no boundaries, Dad gave to many people in need and helped in any way he could whether he was asked to or not. He did this with mostly no recognition. In fact, recognition made Dad feel uncomfortable. Laughter and humour have always been a bonding mechanism in our family. During the toughest of times or after highly-charged emotional discussions or debates, Dad would find a way to turn some aspect of the situation into a near comedic act. Many of our fondest memories with Dad are coated in laughter so hard tears ran down our cheeks. Not only did Dad always make us laugh, he also loved to laugh himself. Throughout our lives we have all not only sought out, but depended on Dad's input, guidance, and feedback on any major decision we made either professionally or personally. Many of our decisions in life were driven by his guidance and encouragement. We are the people we are today because he taught us the belief that we could do anything we put our minds to or wanted to. In times of weakness or discouragement, we prevailed because our father was Fred Penney and we are a reflection of him. In no way were we ready for Dad to leave this earth. Our father's guidance, humorous stories and witty comments will leave an emptiness in our lives that we do not yet know how we will fill. We do know we will move forward with continual self-improvement and strength to fulfill our life goals because we are the children of Fred Penney.
