Stratford-Perth South Boundary Adjustment Approved By Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing STRATFORD - The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) has implemented a boundary adjustment to open the door for the creation of much-needed industrial land for development in the City of Stratford. The annexation of property along Highway 7 and Line 29 was approved by the Ministry on July 20, 2020, and was published in the Ontario Gazette on August 1, 2020. A Ministers... Zoning Order for one of the parcels will expedite the development of that land for industrial purposes and to prompt economic development in the area. This is an important stepping stone to new opportunities that will benefit the City of Stratford the Township of Perth South and Perth County, said Stratford Mayor Dan Mathieson. And its welcome economic news for all of the partners at a time when we desperately need it. This Boundary Adjustment will provide great opportunities for new industries that will benefit the Township of Perth South, City of Stratford and County of Perth, said Perth South Mayor Robert Wilhelm, and will create much needed employment opportunities to offset employment losses from plant closures which have previously been announced. We are pleased to receive the Ministrys support and see this project move forward. This will be a positive economic impact for Perth South and the Perth County region as a whole, added Perth County Warden Jim Aitcheson. The annexation will allow the City of Stratford to extend its existing industrial park and Wright Business Park at the south end of the City, and help address the shortage of industrial lots both large and small in the municipality and surrounding area. A number of manufacturers, including a float glass manufacturing company, have expressed an interest in locating in Stratford. The Ministers Zoning Order, issued under the authority of the Planning Act, allows for a float glass manufacturing facility to be located on the larger annexed parcel of land (west of Highway 7). The City of Stratford will be looking at rezoning the other lands subject to the annexation through a public planning process to bring them into the industrial zone. The municipal councils of the City of Stratford, Township of Perth South and County of Perth approved the annexation proposal earlier this year before sending it to the Ministry for final approval. A separate agreement between the City and the Township was also approved by the area councils setting out in detail the compensation the Township of Perth South will receive for the annexed lands. The Township of Perth South has terminated the declared state of emergency effective Friday July 17, 2020 at 9:00 AM. The Declaration of Emergency came into effect on March 25, 2020 as a result of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and to support Public Health officials efforts to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19. The health and safety of residents remains a top priority for Perth South and we will continue to monitor the virus until the pandemic... is over. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Perth South remains very low, which was one of many contributing factors in the decision to terminate the declared emergency. The geographic Perth County area has seen a relatively low number of cases of COVID-19 due in part to the residents adhering to the guidelines of Huron Perth Public Health. Perth South thanks everyone for their cooperation, patience and support in controlling the spread of COVID-19 said Perth South Mayor Robert Wilhelm. And we would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant in keeping our community healthy and safe by adhering to recommendations made by health officials. The public is encouraged to visit the Huron Perth Public Health website www.hpph.ca for information about COVID-19 and to continue efforts to flatten the curve by social distancing, washing hands regularly and staying home if you are sick. If you have a COVID-19 symptom, are concerned that you have been exposed to COVID-19, or face an increased risk of exposure through a workplace, the Huron Perth Public Health (www.hpph.ca) has testing available. Testing data helps the government understand who is affected by COVID-19 and provides information needed to help keep our community safe and protected. OPEN AIR FIRE BURN IN PERTH COUNTY PERTH COUNTY (July 7, 2020) Effective immediately, all open air fires are prohibited anywhere in Perth County, including the City of Stratford and the Town of St. Marys. Open air fires are defined as any fire outside of a building and include bonfires, campfires, burn barrels, or any other fires set in open air. Recreational camp fires are permitted in the City of Stratford and the Town of St Marys.... Camp fires for the purpose of cooking are permitted in West Perth, Perth East and Perth South from noon (12:00PM) to midnight (12:00AM) only. After midnight, all fires must be completely extinguished. A total burn ban is in place for North Perth. No fires of any kind are permitted. This fire ban is being imposed due to the extreme dryness of all vegetation in the area. This ban shall remain in effect until further notice. With seasonal crops being harvested, farmers are encouraged to exercise extreme caution when operating equipment, as field fires can quickly overtake equipment, neighbouring crops and these fires can spread quickly into adjacent woodlands. If you discover an open air fire, it is very important that you report fires immediately to 9-1-1. Do not delay reporting while attempting to control or extinguish the fire. All burn permits in these municipalities are now suspended. No burn permits will be issued until the ban is lifted.
