The Flu Shot Spot clinic at PRHC is offering flu shots for children under the age of 18 and their household members, thanks to a partnership with Peterborough Public Health. Appointments are available by calling 705-743-2121 x. 2412 and leaving a message. Clinic staff will return calls within 24 hours to confirm an appointment time, location and details. With Ontario in the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and an anticipated seasonal surge in patient volumes in our community, Peterborough Regional Health Centre is expanding the capacity and scope of the COVID-19 Assessment Centre. This will double medical assessment and testing capacity to accommodate as many as 200 people daily and divert patients with moderate respiratory symptoms who require a physician assessment away from the Emergency Department (ED). Shoppers Drug Mart at 741 Lansdowne St. West is now offering COVID-19 testing for people without symptoms by appointment only. Testing at this location will begin Thursday, October 15. People calling to book an appointment will need to meet at least one (1) of the following testing criteria: Resident or worker in long-term care home Visitor to a long-term care home... Resident or worker in a homeless shelter Resident or worker in other congregate living settings and institutions International student who has passed their 14-day quarantine period Farm worker Person requiring a COVID-19 test for international travel clearance Indigenous communities Person who requires a test prior to a procedure/surgery To book an appointment, call 705-748-6141 and follow the recorded prompts. You will be screened by a pharmacy staff member and booked for a test if you meet the criteria. The COVID-19 Eastgate Memorial Park testing site is now available by appointment only through the online booking tool. The calendar will show any available appointments for the same day and the following day. Monday appointments will open up on Sundays each week. With high patient volumes and limited space in the Emergency Department (ED), only essential caregivers are permitted to accompany patients in the ED. An essential caregiver is someone who is considered necessary for the assessment, diagnosis, and physical and/or mental health care of the patient. Limiting the number of people in the ED supports appropriate physical distancing and helps us to keep our patients, staff, and community safe. Please remember that everyone coming to the ED will be screened before entering. Today, the government of Ontario released revised COVID-19 screening guidelines for schools and child care centres, adjusting the type and number of symptoms needed for a child to stay home for a period of time and/or seek medical advice. This week, Peterborough Paramedics have tested more than 500 people daily at the COVID-19 drive-through site, working overtime to get through long lines of cars. We continue to experience extremely high volumes and ask that you come prepared to wait, which may include bringing a snack or any necessary medications with you. Please note that the public washrooms at Eastgate Memorial Park are now open on a temporary basis. When waiting in line, please avoid blocking bus stops and driveways with your car. Today, the government of Ontario issued a statement updating provincial testing guidelines for COVID-19. Effective immediately, Ontarians should only seek testing at assessment centres if they: - Are showing COVID-19 symptoms... - Have been exposed to a confirmed case of the virus, as informed by their public health unit or exposure notification through the COVID Alert app - Are residents of or work in a setting that has a COVID-19 outbreak, as identified and informed by their local public health unit - Are eligible for testing as part of a targeted testing initiative directed by the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of Long-Term Care.
