Two years today, we said goodbye to the American hero and incomparable conservative, Senator John McCain. I’ve thought of him often these last few months. Glad to remain in contact with his incredible family. Rest in peace, my friend.

Probably the greatest sacrifice made during a leadership campaign is by a candidate’s family. I owe my deepest thanks to Nazanin, Kian, Valentia and Caledon. Grateful for your unconditional love. I feel so blessed to have you by my side.

Un mot de gratitude sincère à tous ceux qui ont travaillé sur ma campagne. Votre engagement et votre travail acharné au cours des huit derniers mois sont très appréciés. Nous envisageons l'avenir avec optimisme et enthousiasme. Nazanin, les enfants et moi-même vous sommes éternellement reconnaissants et nous nous réjouissons à l'idée de vous parler bientôt. J'ai le sentiment que nous avons mené une campagne courageuse et de grande envergure. Ce fut une expérience extraordinaire, même si ce n'est pas le résultat que nous espérions. Je vais maintenant me concentrer sur ma famille et de futurs engagements de service public.

A word of sincere gratitude to all who worked on my campaign. Your commitment and hard work over the last 8 months is so appreciated. We look to the future with optimism and enthusiasm. Nazanin and the kids and I are eternally grateful and look forward to speaking with you soon. I feel we ran a valiant and high-road campaign. It was an amazing experience, though not the result we hoped for. I now get to focus on family and future forms of a public service.

It was great to have Peter MacKay swing by Etobicoke last night to collect some more ballots.

I’m astounded by all the hard work our volunteers have accomplished over the last eight months. This team has truly gone above and beyond, and I’m grateful for every single contribution. Now let’s get these ballots to Ottawa!

Seventy eight years ago today, Canadian and allied personnel raided the port at Dieppe, France. It was a tragic, painful day for far too many, and stands as a dark reminder of the price we risk paying when we send our Canadian Armed Forces into harm’s way. Lest we forget.
