Meetibg date - Wednesday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m. With the assistance of Bicycle Nova Scotia, the Town of Port Hawkesbury will be able to study the neighbourh...ood bikeways options through the lens of all ages and abilities design and make informed decisions for the future planning of these connectors. This informed planning will help to guide the Town of Port Hawkesbury with the creation of a bicycle network that will strengthen community connections, support sustainable transportation for a broad range of users. A meeting will be held on September 30 at 6:00 p.m. in the Shannon Studio of the Civic Centre to gather community input. Please note that the room will be setup with social distancing in mind. Franklin Wright Gallery or watch the livestreamed artist's talk on Lumière Cape Breton's FB Page. It will be airing tonight, September 12th, from about 7PM to 8PM or can be viewed as a video anytime thereafter This year's festival is island wide, with many exhibits online, and goes from September 12th until September 26th. It is our great pleasure to announce an installation by artist-in-residence Josephine Clarke Textiles through Lumière Cape Breton 2020! Her show "What is le...ft behind?" will be at the J. Franklin Wright Gallery in Port Hawkesbury's Civic Centre and is opening 7PM this Saturday, September 12th. The installation will be available for free viewings between September 12th and September 26th This year the nighttime festival is going online and island wide. The events will take place over the two weeks, giving you even more opportunities to see the artists' works in the theme of "Anthropocene". ENERGY/MINES--Active Transportation Projects Help Reduce Emissions in Port Hawkesbury ------------------------------------------------------------- The province is helping to reduce emissions in Port Hawkesbury through active transportation infrastructure. Energy and Mines Minister Derek Mombourquette announced $100,000 for projects under the Connect2 stream of the Low Carbon Communities Program today, Sept. 1.... "Nova Scotia continues to be a national leader in reducing emissions to fight climate change," said Mr. Mombourquette. "Communities are doing their part to reduce emissions and secure Nova Scotia's cleaner energy future. Investments like these will help grow the green economy and create jobs across our province." The Town of Port Hawkesbury will receive $100,000 to pave an active transportation lane, build community-wide active transportation supports like bike repair and water stations, build active transportation extensions to connect residential areas to the commercial district and roll-out a bike loan program. Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre Fitness Extended Hours The Port Hawkesbury Fitness Centre has now been open for a month after being closed due to COVID. We have seen an increase in new memberships, and are now able to make some changes to the hours of operation. Starting September 8, we will be extending the hours to 6:00am to 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, Monday to Friday, and Saturdays 8:00-1:00 p.m. Several fitness programs are offered, and will be limited to ten part...icipants. To avoid disappointment, participants must reserve a spot by calling the Port Hawkesbury Fitness Centre at 625-7010. On going COVID protocol requirements may be obtained by calling 625-2591 or on the Town of Port Hawkesbury and Civic Centre websites and social media sites. As part of the new provincial mask wearing directive, masks are now required to be worn in the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre. This includes when you are visiting the Municipal offices. Below is the list of other locations where masks must be worn. The province has announced that masks will be mandatory in the following indoor public places as of July 31: retail businesses shopping centres... personal services businesses, such as hair and nail salons, spas, body art facilities, except during services that require removing a mask restaurants and bars, except while people are eating or drinking places of worship or faith gatherings (masks can be removed temporarily for ceremonial purposes, such as receiving Communion or a couple during their wedding ceremony) places for cultural or entertainment services or activities such as movie theatres, concerts and other performances places for sports and recreational activities, such as a gym, pool or indoor tennis facility, except while doing an activity where a mask cannot be worn such as working out at the gym. places for events such as conferences and receptions municipal or provincial government locations offering services to the public common areas of tourist accommodations, such as lobbies, elevators and hallways common areas of office buildings such as lobbies, elevators and hallways, but not private offices public areas of a university or college campus, such as library or student union building, but not classrooms, labs, offices or residences train or bus stations, ferry terminals and airports Schools, daycares and day camps continue to follow their reopening plans. Children under two are exempt, as well as children between the ages of two and four if their caregiver cannot get them to wear a mask.

The Civic Centre has reopened for meetings and will be following all provincial Covid 19 guidelines including numbers that are permitted to gather. While we were closed a deep cleaning has been carried out in all of the meeting and public areas, and we have put in a new and enhanced cleaning schedule. Following the provincial announcement today, the playground is open. This includes the tennis courts, basketball courts, the play structures, the recreation fields, and the pump track. We are awaiting the province’s decision on the reopening of splashpads. Please adhere to the Covid-19 regulations, as outlined today by the Nova Scotia government. Physical distancing is not required for groups under 10, but groups over 10 must practice Covid-19 6 foot physical distancing protocol.
