Toque Tuesday is a ball hockey tournament at Surrey Civic Plaza that draws attention to homelessness in the city. This will be the first year that Phoenix and other organizations will not be able to participate due to the pandemic . BUT we are still having some fun through a virtual event/video project organized by the City of Surrey! (Stay tuned!) For now, check out some of our Phoenix residents and staff showing off their tricks! ... City of Surrey
Just because a relapse occurs doesn’t mean someone is a failure in their recovery. As a strength-based organization we choose to look at people's assets and work with accomplishments rather than the deficit. If you want to learn more visit our website and connect with our staff. #PhoenixSociety
Did you miss the news last week? Our food truck hit the road to serve free meals to those in need for the first time! We're up and running, but are still looking to explore funding partners and donations to sustain the project long-term. Click to learn more! https://www.phoenixsociety.com//phoenix-society-food-truc/

Nelson and the ‘toquers’ would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the program! We are reaching our goal of making 150 toques for the homeless as part of our Coldest Night of the Year campaign! Donations of over $25 receive a free toque -> http://walk.w-ith.me/PhoenixSociety So far, roughly 50 toques have been made for babies in the NICU.... Our community has come together (socially distanced) to bring toques to those who are unhoused during this cold season. So from Nelson and everyone at Phoenix, THANK YOU!
Our vision statement outlines five crucial words for recovery: Community, connection, opportunities, strengths and potential. The power of attraction is a theory that has a beautiful base - put forward positive thoughts and open yourself up to positive experiences. Phoenix is a strength-based organization that believes in the fundamental value of focusing on client assets and believing in their ability to utilize them at full capacity.... Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) is an annual national public education campaign designed to help open the eyes of Canadians to the reality of mental illness. The week was established in 1992 by the Canadian Psychiatric Association, and is now coordinated by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) in cooperation with all its member organizations and many other supporters across Canada. One of MIAW’s major initiatives is the FACES OF MENTAL ILLNE...SS campaign, a national outreach campaign featuring the stories of Canadians living in recovery from mental illness. Thousands of pieces of MIAW materials featuring the Faces are disseminated to hundreds of organizations across Canada in an effort to raise awareness and end the stigma associated with mental illness. Here at Phoenix we have wrap around care for everyone and anyone who needs it, limited barriers and access to learning more about mental health and how to not let your mental illness define who you are. We are here with you #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek https://youtu.be/S0fouigM-Ig
Phoenix would like to thank #IWMS for their generous donation of 50 handmade cloth masks for our residents. Our clients were excited to stay safe in such style! Thank you Intercultural Women's Maker Society we are so grateful for you. The purpose of the IWMS is to support women with diverse cultural backgrounds in improving their skills, expanding social networks and gaining self confidence and independence through maker-based entrepreneurial activities.
Homelessness vs. "Houselessness": Bridging Empathy for the Marginalized Register for this FREE event, The Downtown Surrey BIA will have our very own Keir Macdonald, Chief Executive Officer of the Phoenix Society, as their upcoming speaker for Community Conversations. He focusses his passions on responding to Canada’s drug poisoning crisis, and strives to create a true continuum of care for those who are most vulnerable in our communities. http://ow.ly/ZQkK50BUZEE
Happy National Smile Day! Here is a video of our community smiling. because laughing is the best medicine in times like these... Times can be hard.. whether it's the world we live in or the recovery we are working hard for. It is important to stay grateful and smile for the things we do have today. What can you smile for today? your sobriety date? your new job? the friends you have? or the fact that you are alive! take a minute to smile... for no one else but yourself, because you are worth a happy thought :) #nationalsmileday #smile #community #grateful #live #laugh
Today, September 30th is Orange Shirt Day! Please wear an orange shirt to remember Canada’s history of Indigenous children of the residential schools. #orangeshirtday #everychildmatters #orange
Thank you Surrey Firefighter's for your generous donation! "In much the same way that equipping substance users and peer support workers with naloxone has allowed BC to dramatically intervene in the current opioid crisis, we believe that equipping recovering substance users with Mental Health First Aid training presents an opportunity to stem the increasing tide of mental health issues presenting in hospital emergency rooms and community primary care clinics."
Carolyn is one of our addiction counsellors here at Phoenix. She has made such an impact here and we are grateful for all of her work and the compassion she brings. Thank you for sharing the day with us and your journey in Recovery. 11 years is amazing! #WeCanRecover
Phoenix's very own Music Therapist, Felicia, was featured on Music Heals Canada. From the post: The use of music and musical elements helps the client with emotional processing and expression, reflection and self-awareness. It helps with one’s confidence and self-esteem. Also, it helps to connect with the inner spiritual self, shares Music Therapist, Felicia Wall.
You are not alone, reach out. We care <3 #mentalhealth
#COVID-19 was not going to stop the counselling team from the Phoenix Society from virtually participating in the 4th Annual #RecoveryCapitalConference today. #recovery
Sometimes you need to get out of office and do some team exercises! The Phoenix managers meet once a month to discuss programs, strategic priorities and to reconnect as a team. Did you know at Phoenix we administer the same assessments to staff as we do for our clients. The work we do is based on VIA strengths. If you would like to learn more about VIA strength pm us!
This #InternationalOverdoseAwarenessDay we would like to talk about stigma, poisoning and how to save lives. www.lifeguarddh.com
We are happy to announce that Phoenix House our new licensed 10 bed Stabilization Program is now open!!! A big thank you to our incredible partners Fraser Health Authority and the Surrey Homeless and Housing Society for making it possible. To accomplish such a task during an epidemic was not easy, but we are proud of it's outcome. We want to thank our board, staff, and residents for their efforts and determination! #recovery #treatment #healthcare
In one word or with one photo tell us what #Recovery means to you!!
