Our team in Thunder Bay completed our project on HWY 527 which included over 25km's of paving, culvert replacements, grade raises, road pulverizing, base work and more. Our team in Thunder Bay has been working on Hwy 527 this summer! Located approximately 75kms North of Hwy 17/Hwy11 intersection, highway construction has been taking place including replacement of culverts, pulverizing of asphalt, and paving base and surface layers. The team is using expanded asphalt stabilization that recycles existing roadway and uses it for the base for the surface asphalt. ... Our crews in the Thunder Bay, Ontario area are keeping busy this summer - one of our teams is working on a new type of contract on Hwy 17 between Shabaqua and Upsala! The work includes removing an existing partially paved shoulder, regrading the shoulder to correct the cross fall and installing fully paved shoulders down the side of the highway without doing any work to the main driving lanes. The removed asphalt is being recycled and used for the shoulder rounding (at the edge of the shoulder) to prevent washouts from occurring. Recycling the old asphalt for use in the rounding is a great alternative to granular sealing since no new products have to be used for this operation.
