Every year our team in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario gets together to raise funds for a cause that is close to our hearts and to our local community. This year, led by the amazing Linda Lewis, the team got together to raise funds for the ‘Sponsor a Child for Christmas Campaign’ through the Children's Aid Society of Algoma. With employees from Fisher Wavy Inc. and Palmer Construction Group Inc. joining to help, we managed to raise $3,000! This money will go towards providing gi...fts and nourishment to over 100 families and their children in the Sault area this holiday season. Thank you to everyone who gave generously and participated!

Today is Giving Tuesday and we’ve linked up with the Cambrian College Foundation by committing to match up to $5000 in donations made today between 2pm-3pm! These donations will go toward students through the emergency hardship fund. Contributions will support students in need via bursaries and the Cambrian College Student Foodbank. Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree! We’ve donated this custom decorated Christmas Tree we titled Tidings of Comfort and Toys to the Festival of Trees at Science North! All the donated Christmas Trees will be put up for auction in hopes of raising $20,000 to support initiatives at Science North and other groups supported by the Sudbury Charities Foundation. #GivingTuesday is held on the first Tuesday of December each year and its goal is to help support and strengthen our communities and local organizations during the holiday season. This year, Pioneer Construction Inc. and our friends at Fisher Wavy Inc. are proud to be participating in Giving Tuesday with the Cambrian College Foundation! Financial struggles for students both living on and off-campus at Cambrian College have come in surges due to the COVID-19 restrictions and ...closures. On December 1, 2020, all donations made to the Cambrian College Scholarship/Bursary Program and the Cambrian College Student Food Bank will be matched by a local business or resident of Sudbury. This year, from 2pm 3pm on Tuesday only, Pioneer Construction & Fisher Wavy will be matching all donations to the Cambrian College Foundation up to $5,000! Our team in Thunder Bay completed our project on HWY 527 which included over 25km's of paving, culvert replacements, grade raises, road pulverizing, base work and more. Our team in Thunder Bay has been working on Hwy 527 this summer! Located approximately 75kms North of Hwy 17/Hwy11 intersection, highway construction has been taking place including replacement of culverts, pulverizing of asphalt, and paving base and surface layers. The team is using expanded asphalt stabilization that recycles existing roadway and uses it for the base for the surface asphalt. ... Pioneer Construction Inc. is proud to be Northern Ontario's choice for road and highway construction.

Our crews in the Thunder Bay, Ontario area are keeping busy this summer - one of our teams is working on a new type of contract on Hwy 17 between Shabaqua and Upsala! The work includes removing an existing partially paved shoulder, regrading the shoulder to correct the cross fall and installing fully paved shoulders down the side of the highway without doing any work to the main driving lanes. The removed asphalt is being recycled and used for the shoulder rounding (at the edge of the shoulder) to prevent washouts from occurring. Recycling the old asphalt for use in the rounding is a great alternative to granular sealing since no new products have to be used for this operation.

Some of our employees at the Head Office in Sudbury are participating in weekly outdoor workouts with Mandie, a trainer from Sudbury School of Fitness! Thank you to Mandie who is an experienced trainer for building workouts and circuits that are flexible with modifications to suit a wide range of physical fitness levels for our team. We at Pioneer Construction Inc. strive to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle within our workforce. Outdoor workouts are a great way to keep active in a group setting while maintaining social distancing and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Over the past few weeks, we have been distributing masks to all of our employees in the various locations in which we work. Along with the masks given to our own front line employees, our team has also made donations to local health care facilities. So far, we have donated 17,000 to health care facilities across the North including Health Sciences North / Horizon Santé-Nord, Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora, the Sault Area Hospital, Thessalon Hospital and the Alg...oma Manor Nursing Home. We will continue to donate masks as they become available. Our target will be hospitals and seniors homes located in Northern Ontario where the need is the greatest as we are aware that their supplies are diminishing at a rapid rate. Today we joined a group of over 50 vehicles from the construction, mining and trucking industries that convoyed around Health Sciences North / Horizon Santé-Nord and the City of Greater Sudbury to show our appreciation for the front-line workers. Our friends at Health Sciences North / Horizon Santé-Nord called our Sudbury location yesterday requesting assistance to set up a COVID-19 drive-through screening station at their Walford Road location. Within the hour, and with the assistance from our friends at The Sign Shop, we were able to provide signage, barrels and caution tape to the site to assist with the setup. We are proud to be able to continue to support our communities through these times and are thankful for the support of other local businesses and essential workers for their continued work.

Last night, local contractors in the North Bay, Ontario area organized a parade of vehicles and equipment around the North Bay Regional Health Centre to show our community's appreciation for the front line workers. Thank you to everyone who is working to keep our community safe during the pandemic.

Staff members from our main office in Sudbury volunteered last night with Safe Ride Home Sudbury as designated drivers for the holiday season. Working from 8pm until 3am, our volunteers drove intoxicated citizens and their vehicles home after holiday celebrations.
