Park elves getting ready for the holidays
We always love to see what our visitors have to say about their experiences with our park. Recently, Trip Advisor user @IM_Explorer shared their experience while visiting the park in a cooler time of the year and how in the winter, many locals believe that the view from the top of the Park's staircase looks identical to Santa Claus' home base, the North Pole! Eager to share your experience at Pioneer Park with us? Tag your memories with #pioneerparkbayfield on your nex...t adventure. #pioneerparkbayfield #bayfieldontario

Every year, families are faced with a big question. To buy a traditional, real Christmas tree or a manufactured plastic one. Though you may have heard of the many pros and cons through, one thing rings true, buying a plastic Christmas tree can be very damaging to our global environment. Artificial Christmas trees, or, any artificial tree really, is made with harmful chemicals such as metal and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC is non-biodegradable and is one of the most toxic ...chemicals known to man, thus, making it no surprise that PVC has been boycotted by numerous environmental groups. Real trees, on the other hand, are biodegradable and much better for the environment. Studies show that a single Christmas tree can absorb around one tonne of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. Additionally, with such a high demand for non-artificial trees, most tree farms replace purchased trees with new saplings every year. Meaning, harvesting a Christmas tree is no more environmentally damaging than harvesting a cob of corn! So, do you plan to purchase a real, traditional Christmas tree for your home this year? Or stick to an artificial one? Let us know in the comments below! #pioneerparkbayfield #bayfieldontario #christmastree #globalwarming
September is National Mushroom Month, and what a great time to celebrate the mushroom! With such versatility for cooking, mushrooms are used in virtually every cuisine and can be prepared in several different ways. Containing plenty of nutrients and vitamins, the most popular varieties include a button, cremini, portobello, shiitake and oyster. Though you may see mushrooms popping up in the park, on the trails or even in your own backyard, it is important not to pick or e...at wild or unknown mushrooms! Many wild mushrooms are poisonous which is why it is best to purchase cultivated varieties and leave wild foraging to the trained professionals. However, this doesnt mean that you cant still admire strange mushrooms from afar, it is mushroom month after all! #pioneerparkbayfield #bayfieldontario
