Some very eye popping designs. The scale of these buildings is phenomenal.

Simply amazing - video is a bit long but worth watching - doesn't even look like the inside of a building never mind an airport. Hopefully air traffic will get back to something normal so it will be fully used and enjoyed.

This is a very interesting and sustainable approach to managing multiple issues. The power plant is used to burn waste but also contributes to local amenity infrastructure. The roof is a 'green' ski slope combined with walking trails with lookouts while the exterior walls provide climbing opportunities.

Simple yet elegant design for this pedestrian link. Use of weathering steel makes it very durable and essentially maintenance free. It's great to see this level of infrastructure support for pedestrian movements.

A beautiful example of sustainable and environmentally friendly design for this new library. Blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

Very interesting ideas but given we can't even get the Alstom train sets to work here in Ottawa I'm not sure we'll see much innovation here.

The resulting effect is quite dramatic but I wonder what the bricklayers had to say about it. I'm sure it would be cost prohibitive from the labour perspective for most projects but I guess the wine industry has deeper pockets.

This is a very interesting design that maximizes the open space close to the waterfront while inserting a significant new museum facility. The worn stone like appearance of the visible portions of the building blends well with the waterfront park location. The proposed amphitheatre on the roof deck would be an awesome venue for an event.

This looks like a very interesting addition to this bridge. I'm not sure of the traffic volumes or the protection from vehicular noise and wind on the pathway but the views look amazing. The resting spots and public art add some nice touches.

Very impressive and sustainable building for this new cancer centre. Locally sourced wood has been used to create some innovative and visually interesting interiors.

Very innovative design and the net-zero carbon approach is definitely in the right direction.

Here is something to think about for Ottawa. While we dither about a few streets on an interim basis and make the local Councillors pay out their administrative budgets Mayor Sadiq Khan In London is proposing closure of entire areas to be car free. What do you think Marie-Claude and Thomas Qu as residents?

Very innovative design for a 7 unit building offering a variety of housing forms within the same building envelope. Contemporary design blends well with adjacent development. take some time to review the detailed plans at the end of the article. A great example of "Doing Density Right".

Another stunning addition to London's skyline. Take the time to watch the video as it gives a great overview of the design process and uses an interesting analogy of a building being like a guest at a cocktail party.

Now this is a green roof project. I can understand the quote from the architect: "Raising them, selecting them, caring, watering, trimming, guaranteeing their performance for 99 years and overcoming the public debate, that it would never look like in our drawings [were the major challenges]," said Ingenhoven. "Happily, it was possible to prove our thoughts and illustrations to be right."

Beautiful restoration and modern addition to a wonderful heritage building in my hometown Cambridge Ontario. Great to see this happen.

Very interesting design for this suburban context public library. Creates beautiful and usable indoor and outdoor areas that appear connected through the glass.

Interesting article and even includes a reference to Toronto. The quote from Mayor de Blasio sounds a lot like Mayor Watson here in Ottawa. I agree safety is imperative but surely there are ways to allow emergency access by vehicles for the few times that may occur. Given the reduction in normal traffic due the quarantine closing a few streets to create more walking space seems to be a good approach.

Here's a thought provoking use of VR technology to stay in touch with each other. Might even be a way to conduct community engagement in these days of quarantine.

City spaces don't seem real without people to activate them - the space and architecture aren't enough - it only creates the environment for activity.

Another very interesting design for affordable housing in a mid-rise form in London UK. Particularly like the orientation of the balconies and that all units on the ground floor have direct street access. Much better approach to connect the building to the street.

Here are some ancient and stunning examples of how to live in sustainable and eco-friendly way even while geo-forming the earth to meet our needs. Climate change and adaptability are not new.

Everyone knows the old adage 'what goes around comes around". Here's an interesting historical take on building high-rises and setting zoning standards from NYC in 1916. Many of you familiar with the evolution of design guidelines and zoning requirements here in Ottawa will find some very familiar images and cross-sections that are have been re-born here in our 'new' approaches.

This annual competition is an interesting blend of public art and embracing our winter climate. Three cheers for Toronto!

Now how would we measure compatibility with this infill project. Certainly the neighbouring houses that are visible in some of the images may wonder just what moved into the neighbourhood. What do you think?

Some amazing architecture and urban design projects in this article. One of particular interest for Ottawans today as we await the release of the design of our new public library is the award to the Calgary Public Library project. One advantage that project had over ours is that it is located in and connected to the downtown and not on the edge as ours is.

Perhaps we here in Ottawa are not ready as we live in a suburban region rather than a walkable metropolis but momentum is growing for reducing or eliminating parking for many land uses. The article does not describe how the same day delivery system would work but a location like we have here at the Pinecrest store has great vehicular access. Just think what could be done with those acres of parking ...

Very interesting use of a small lot for housing. I'm not sure how this would comply with Ontario's disability access standards but it is certainly an innovative use of space.
