An important Message from Mary for anyone interested in the Community Garden : Hi Community Gardeners. The 2019 season is here .... As some of you may have heard , 108 College Street (the Community Garden Spot) has been sold by the Region of queens to the Queens Daycare Association. The daycare is working on the details of an agreement which would allow the Community Garden to continue to operate and be available to those who would like to participate. For now they are advising to go ahead and plant your garden plots. In previous years many of the preparation for the garden was done by a group of people that were heading up the garden. This year many of those members are no longer available and we now need some new people to step up and help in order for the garden continue. Mary White will still be available as a volunteer however someone needs to take the lead on the Community Garden and work together with the Daycare to integrate the garden so a partnership can be formed. As the property is no longer owned by the municipality, gardeners will be on private property there will be some issues that will need to be addressed in the future for the benefit of both organizations. In the mean time if you are interested in being involved or being a member of the Community Garden please come forward as we need help! There will be a quick meeting at the garden to discuss moving forward on Saturday May 18th at 1 PM. This will require someone to take the lead on the following issues: (1) Call Richard Anthony and see if he is able to donate and drop off a load of chicken manure. Email gardeners with a time to come help spread manure. Then Arrange garden tilling to be done asap. (2) Arrange opening Day date and time and advise gardeners (send out email to group list and post on Facebook) to come help clean and prepare the garden for planting. (3) Pick date and time for W/S after manure is delivered and spread and garden is tilled. The tiller is at Native Council-Municipality usually tills the garden-if not Kim Williams may be able to help with this task. (4) Fix fencing (5) Spread mulch in between rows (6) Mark off beds and assign to members (7) Clean and tidy shed and tools (8) Someone to volunteer to receive membership emails and to assign the beds and gather member info (email and ph #) so group contact can be maintained for future events. At this time I am not sure if there will be any restrictions on the garden times. Tools will still be available to all members to use. I am not sure if there will be water available to gardeners or not. Please contact Queens daycare for any further information you require.

Thanks to everyone involved in organising the Corn Bake last Tuesday. Good food, good company and a good harvest. What more could a gardener ask for?

Reminder of eco tour/forage on Thursday September 6. We will meet at the community garden at 108 college street and at 6 pm leave to meet Crow Eddy at 596 West street. Follow Main street (which turns into West st) and continue to address. Camera, paper, pen, and bags for samples are all great things to bring on a forage. Hope you can make it. Mary Gardeners on your mark-get set-harvest!! Look at all the beans one gardener picked from their community plot! Way to go guys. Upload your harvest pictures
