Good luck Zeke How was... rodeo different for you this year, challenges and all? Rodeos this year were few and far between. We have to travel pretty far and went to a lot of smaller rodeos we normally wouldn’t have had to. Any funny moments you could share from travelling this summer? I travel with some pretty fun guys, we have a lot of fun everyday. There is some incredible equine buckers to be drawn at the WNFR, if you could pick your dream round 10 horse to win the world a 3rd time on - who would it be and why? There are so many good horses, Stampede Warrior of Calgary’s would probably be my pick. It’s a solid horse that you know will buck every time. You grew up just across the river from me in small town Big Valley, do you have anything to say to your supporters back home? We’re pretty fond of our little rural community, especially on a year like this we’re really thankful to live where we do. I’m grateful for our town of Big Valley. What’s the the best financial branch in Alberta? ATB Financial Do you have a ritual or routine before you go to compete? No I like to keep things pretty simple. How was rodeo different for you this year, c...hallenges and all? 2020 was full of surprises and unknowns. Not knowing if there was going to be an NFR or not in the middle of the season was the hardest part. But as far as competition, it was a lot more one header rodeos. Less strategic roping and more back against the wall type competition. Who are you riding at the NFR & tell us about him? I’m planning on riding Badger, my good horse I’ve had for quite some time. He’s special to my family and I. He’s given us so much! Do you have a ritual or routine before you go to compete? Not really! I’ve never really got into that. If you could choose any song to play while you back into the box, what would it be? Haha I really don’t know. Blink 182 is my favourite, but I don’t think their music would be fitting for that. Career highlight thus far? 2013 Canadian Champion! I’m proud of that one. My dad won it in 2000. I like being able to wear the same buckle as him! You’ve had a great year, despite these trying times... Can you tell me about the other big event that happened in your life other than qualifying for the NFR? I got married on October 3rd, It was a great day and I feel very blessed to have Katy believing in what we are doing. Tell us a little bit about your family, and the legacy that you’ve proudly carried on. This is what I’m most proud of. My late grandfather started it all for us. The roping and horsemanship. He was the greatest man I’ve ever got to be around. My dad has a lot of success in his roping career and in life. They both always push hard work and dedication. A message from CPRA President - Terry Cooke "All of us would love to be heading to Red Deer right now and getting ready for CFR47. Unfortunately, that can’t happen this year. But instead, we can spend some time reflecting back on the wonderful Canadian Finals Rodeo that 2019 brought us and look ahead to the return of professional rodeo and the CFR in 2021. I want to offer special congratulations to the CPRA athletes, stock contractors and their four-legged partners who will ...soon be making their way to Arlington, Texas for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Closer to home, it’s exciting to see CPRA Committee Reps, Shane Crouch and Lloyd Gray, orchestrating a meeting of our rodeo committees for Nov 21st. It will be great to see everyone get together and start planning for 2021. I'm sure some good ideas will come out of this meeting. We have also been in regular contact with Alberta Health Services authorities and continue to work closely with them in planning for next year’s rodeo season. We’re all aware that we will have to make changes in how we do business from now on but l am confident that we will overcome the challenges the pandemic has brought us. I believe that our existence depends on all of us being more creative if we want to continue to prosper. The western way of life is very dear to us all and we have to stick together to keep it going. Finally, to celebrate our traditional CFR week, I invite you follow along on the Rodeo Canada website and social media channels where we’ll be looking back at CFR 2019. This event is in support of the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sport Medicine Team and the work that they do and all proceeds raised will go directly to the not-for-profit organization.... There will be a few changes in format to align with Alberta Health Services guidelines, these are outlined below. During a time like this we feel it is important to proceed with this event to have some fun out on the fairway and reconnect with our comrades, all in the name of rodeo- which we have missed dearly.
