We're so happy to be starting a new cycle of our fantastic DBT SKILLS GROUP in January 2021. This group is open to youth ages 15 to 29 who are actively looking ...to find coping strategies to deal with the demands of everyday life. Throughout this 10-week program, participants will work together to help build and implement new skills as well as strengthen and practice existing ones. The only way to soothe an upset Emotional State is through connection. The better we can release energy, manage our stress reaction, and return to equilibrium, the easier we can return to a Safe State after a threat. To do this, we have to learn to tolerate and feel uncomfortable sensations in the body rather than trying to numb or avoid. To change and make wise choices, we must be able to regulate our nervous system, integrate our internal states, and access the Safe State (prefrontal lobes). In this state, we are able to attune to the feelings & experiences of others, make choices free from past conditioning, remain focused, and respond consciously instead of automatically to events.
